He was on pints of Diet Coke for years, but now it seems he's back on the beer again - providing someone else buys it obvs!

When I saw this thread I thought he was dead

He used to come to me mam and dads house before I was born cadging pieces fruit in Halliwell.

He asks about my dad sometimes when I see him. My old man died 23 years ago today, Sunday between the Hull and Preston games.

Big Darren is a Bolton legend and top guy.

Didn't you go to school with him?

id seen those fan pics and didnt realise it was darren

looked like a young mickyd

He used to get on our school bus sometimes, legend had it he had a rabbit and if you told him you'd killed it he would go apeshit and batter everyone on the bus to within an inch of their lives.

In five years no one ever had the bottle to say owt.

And was it Wigan away where the ball came into our end and it took Darren about 47 attempts to get it back over the railings?

Remember being in Gibson sports in town as mcginlay and walker were doing an autograph signing session. Spazzy Darren is in front of us. When he gets to talk to them he tells them about how his mate nicked a car so they could go to hull away on the Friday night

Whilst there's two coppers sat either side of them

Scousey Darren not Spazzy Darren then.

Once saw him on a bus eating a massive raw ham shank.

He was known around Highfield as Móngy Darren, but that's obviously not very PC.

He sounds like some kind of mythical creature.

how old is he ???

I first became aware of him away at Wigan on the Friday night we lost 2-0 about 1990ish. I was in his train carriage on the way back, he was mithering 2 birds all the way back who were going into Bolton for a night out.

He certainly kept me entertained and most of the carriage too. I bet 'Lisa' has still never forgotten her trip either!

He came in our pegs carvery on a day out to cleveleys once.

He had beef and turkey.

how old is he ???

older than me I'm sure so old! He used to scare me when he got on tHe bus near smithills 6th form, I think he went to a day centre further up.

First saw him a Watford Gap services on route to Wembley (not sure if it was Bristol City or Tranmere).  He stuffed a full apple in his mouth and ate it as everyone who had circled him to watch such a feat chucked him their loose change at his feet

When I saw this thread, I thought it was about Pratley

First time I sw him was at Stockport away in 1988 or 89 and he was collecting the tuppences people were throwing "towards" him. Saw him the week later in Bolton town centre, he just walked up to a women with two kids and just said "i'm your dad", the kid burst out crying and the women just stood there stunned. Darren walked off laughing to himself

Few years ago at Newcastle away he was sat near me with no shirt on

For some reason I thought it would be a good idea for a photo opportunity

I reckon he was still slimmer that most Newcastle fans who think it's great to watch a game with no shirt on

I remember darren chasing a lad of about ten around the front of the burnden terrace. The lad for some reason had turned up in a united shirt. Everyone chanting twat him darren, the steward laughing as darren swung at him... innocent times

Swansea away when we thought we were up but weren't.

He was sat on the terrace with a bog roll and surrounded by change.

Rotherham similar time too.
