September 16, 20169 yr Absolute holiday goals from jules there, getting booked in next door to little whitt for a week. Bet his Mrs can't wait for the truffle pig to show up and raid the washing basket.
September 18, 20169 yr Can anyone that knows Crete recommend where would be better to go for an early evening stroll and dinner out of Hersonissos and Gouves? We're kinda between the two. Ta
September 18, 20169 yr If you're happy to go to hersonissos get a cab to the square at old hersonissos or koutoulafari Both are a mile up a big hill behind the resort If you get to koutoulafari try emmanuels The village square at old hersonissos is lovely If you want a stroll by the sea gouves will be better than hersonissos at night And that's without ever going to gouges Hersonissos is ok in the day Med bar has fantastic views and tables with your feet nearly in the sea Find on tripadvisor Edited September 18, 20169 yr by Casino
September 18, 20169 yr The Dutch sports bar in hersonisos did a belting burger and chips. It's a nice place for a stroll round too free of 18-30 holiday types
September 18, 20169 yr Jules, koutalafari and piskopiano are adjacent villages Koutalafari is a great place If you are after a change of scenery and a great meal the best two tavernas IMO (authentic) are Kostas (next to the church) and David Vergara
September 18, 20169 yr The Dutch sports bar in hersonisos did a belting burger and chips. It's a nice place for a stroll round too free of 18-30 holiday types You mustn't have been there recently Got dropped off on the insistence of the cab driver near beach st or something. What an absolute fucking shithole Heronissos is; Like a Dutch Magaluf or summat. Absolutely hanging place. Never again. Fur shop, Tat shop, titty bar. And repeat. Wish I'd insisted on where Cas said (and Bigtoe above but we were already gone) but our cab man was positive we'd want to go there. Just wanted a nice authentic family taverna after the sterile and overpriced hotel. To be fair the place we found wasn't too bad but I got a mozy bite. As a result she won't leave the hotel again Don't blame her really
September 18, 20169 yr If you hire a car, get to Matala on the south of the island, lovely little place

If so then the burger place was in koutaloufari. The costal town was a shit tip. And it was too hot to go on the beach.
September 18, 20169 yr Which way round is it? Is koutaloufari at the top of the hill and hersonisos on the sea front? Yes Frank

September 20, 20169 yr Where in Gouves are you? Had about 5 or 6 holidays at Pella Apartments. Love the place! We're at The Amirandes; it's just East of Gouves. A couple of Km from Pella. A bit set out of the way. Gouves is pretty dead at the minute, end of season and all that. Grey and had a bit of drizzle today, not much fun with an 11mth old

Grey and had a bit of drizzle today, not much fun with an 11mth old To be honest, compared with when we first started going in about 2003, the actual village of Gouves has been going down each year since the Germans opened a couple of All Inclusive hotels. Nobody seems to want to frequent the small bars and restaurants when they've already paid for drink and food in the hotel. Same really applies to all other Mediterranean resorts I guess. Gouves was absolutely buzzing but no more. I guess I'm as guilty though. I'd also opt to pay all inc. for a holiday. That said, MrsD and I have just got back from Majorca where we were all inclusive but still went out for meals and drinks. Next time I'm going back to Gouves.
September 20, 20169 yr Greece is probably the one place that I've never, ever gone all-inclusive because the food is so good
