Greek Holidays

Hello!

My Mrs wants to go to Greece next summer, so I am now doing my homework! We like to go to about 3 different places, spending around 3 nights in each location.

I have thought about flying to Parga, then getting the ferry to Paxos and then a ferry to Corfu, staying in Kassiopi.

As we haven't been to Greece before, does this sound any good? We don't like chavvy destinations, a nice harbour, with plenty of restaurants and tavernas is our kind of thing.

Any recommendations on a multi trip to anywhere in Greece is much appreciated!

Like I said went best part of 30 years ago and it looked like it was just about to become a building site

I'll be checking in with widders now we ain't got kids in tow

Fancy mid May too as August is just daft hot unless you're there for a month or two

Do your kids know you ain't got kids in tow? Mine are still after a final family holiday back in Crete. Problem is, daughter wants her boyfriend there as well.

Let me know what the Alex is like these days. Went there in 2003 , cost us a fortune for two rooms in August. This turned us onto Florida and Mexico for about the same total holiday cost and much better quality and more to do.

My memory of Greece is that it is a beautiful place until you get back to your digs, then it is a third world shithouse with showers that drip on full power, no air conditioning and bogs always blocked ( not the Alex mind)

The Alex is fucking ace. Been modernised. Rooms are like 4-star city hotel, English type 3 pin sockets, flush your bog roll, not too expensive, and you choose your sunbeds on the first day and they tag the umbrella and they are yours for the duration so no fucking around getting up early each morning to make sure you've got Trap 1. Even better just been offered a free upgrade for the rest of the holiday. They need our standard room cos a wedding has been overbooked so got a private cabana from tomorrow ????????

Paphos itself. All the harbour/marina has been modernised and yeah it's a bit touristy but there's no scrotes, the restaurants are really good and the prices are a lot lower than I thought. Sat enjoying the Keo watching the world go by. Love this place. Would definitely come back

What are you off to create?

I spent the majority of 2014 working on a private Island called Scorpios, in my time off I would go to the nearby towns of Nydri and Lefkada, some cracking beaches and all your usual bar's and restaraunts, not many Brits there so you can take that as a positive or a neg and yes you had to put your bog roll in a bin.

A positive, mate

Is the pelican still there?

Yes but it's one of the least busy places.

Looking at going away end of October start of November, half term. Where will the weather be best and what can we expect in terms of temperature?

A few years ago we went to Rhodes last week in October, during the day was pleasant enough but the heat went out of the day about 4pm

Used to have English 3 pin but I thought this was island wide due to it being under British administration from 1878  to 1960. Its why they have our traffic lights and drive on the left.

They used to do the sunbed thing back then. We had to make do with a spot my wife didn't think much of and she caused a diplomatic incident when she decided to swop half way through the holiday. The owd fella who did the tagging was not a happy bunny. Nice to know they have modernised the rooms though.

Yeah the traffic thing got me when I got in the taxi after we landed. Shit myself until the Mrs pointed out the driver sat on the right.

Sunbed wise all you need to do is clock when flights are leaving and ask the tagging bloke which ones are free and he'll swap you over. Grumpy old fucker though. Probably the same bloke

Peter Andre's brother is the "entertainment" in the hotel tonight. Fuck me this place pulls out all the stops

As a kid we always went to Cyprus, as it was hot as fook and cheap which my mum loved. Now it seems quite expensive for what are average hotel's. Any recommendations for a good one appreciated as I would love to go back and see how it's changed.

If it's Paphos I'd go with the Alexander the Great or The Annabel. Both top notch and best location

I went to the Athena beach about 15 years ago, not sure if its still any good.

We went to the Almyra

The adults only part was superb, the rest of it was ok

I think it's the same people that have that and the Annabel

The long haul Thomas Cook planes are ace. Short haul, not so.

Going back to Kefalonia next summer. Booked for Lourdas this time.
