Hello!

 

My Mrs wants to go to Greece next summer, so I am now doing my homework! We like to go to about 3 different places, spending around 3 nights in each location.

 

I have thought about flying to Parga, then getting the ferry to Paxos and then a ferry to Corfu, staying in Kassiopi.

 

As we haven't been to Greece before, does this sound any good? We don't like chavvy destinations, a nice harbour, with plenty of restaurants and tavernas is our kind of thing.

 

Any recommendations on a multi trip to anywhere in Greece is much appreciated!

Never been Greece. Eying a trip September 2017

We've been going to Corfu for 20 years and love the place, so chilled out with history to go with it if you're interested. We usually go to Roda but areas like Kassiopi I hear are great too with a bit more to do and see. I'd definitely recommend spending some time in Corfu Town as well while you're there, takes about 40 minutes-1 hour by taxi from the north of the island if you go into Kassiopi, but it's like a little Paris. I love every bit of it, so yeah Corfu is a must from me!

so far as greek women, lovely colour but plenty been hit with the ugly stick

 

eyeties definitely have the edge

Kassiopi is lovely, probably my favourite place on Corfu and I think I've done every resort on Corfu, Roda is nice if you have children

Roda was my first holiday abroad as a ten year old in 1972. There was one hotel, The Roda Beach Hotel, and a taverna about hundred yards down the beach. Not a thing for a couple of miles either direction along the beach.

 

I keep having a look in the brochures but don't want to spoil the fond memories I have. Bloody great holiday that was.

My favourite bit was the border guard lounging back in his chair, feet on the desk, shirt half undone and his hat on at a jaunty angle just waving folk through passport control on the way home.

Heraklion is a fucking dream compared to Chania. Went through there on a business visit in June. Queue to actually get into the airport building. Queue to check in. Queue to X-Ray the hold baggage. Queue for security. Four bastard hours. Get on the plane and then sat on the tarmac for another hour whilst waiting for a truck to come and drain the toilets. Fucking grim

Paphos is beautiful and loads to do for the history buffs. Plus Greece has got some of the best food in Europe.

You're spoilt for choice in Paphos mate. It's teeming with Meze type places so you don't need to visit the same restaurant twice. We tended to go with tripadvisor recommendations - but to be honest the smaller - family run ones were just as good and a little cheaper.

 

Booze wise I'm not much help - my Mrs was heavily pregnant at the time so we didn't do much drinking. There's some nice places down at the dock area in the main town and apparently one main strip full of bars which we didn't make it to unfortunately. Next time maybe! It'll be boiling in September as well. We went mid October and it was still in the late 20's everyday.

 

Whatever you do - don't hire a car and drive over the mountains to visit 'Aphrodites Waterfall'. Basically it's a stagnant pond next to a rock with a smidgen of water running down the side :-)

Let me know what the Alex is like these days. Went there in 2003 , cost us a fortune for two rooms in August.  This turned us onto Florida and Mexico for about the same total holiday cost and much better quality and more to do.

 

My memory of Greece is that it is a beautiful place until you get back to your digs, then it is a third world shithouse with showers that drip on full power, no air conditioning and bogs always blocked ( not the Alex mind)

Yes which is why i balcony hop into next door and drop my chamber of horrors in there. Or do it in the sea.

Hence the brown lumps that keep getting washed up on the beaches.

It's obiously horses for courses, I didn't like Paphos one bit, it was way too built up and touristy for me

 

So much so, I ended up moving to a different resort, I went to Polis and Lachi and both were wonderful, there are some fantastic restaurants, I hired a motor boat, and the bars where great in both resorts but Paphos

 

Not on your nelly if you like small islands in Greece, it's not for you

Like I said went best part of 30 years ago and it looked like it was just about to become a building site

 

I'll be checking in with widders now we ain't got kids in tow

 

Fancy mid May too as August is just daft hot unless you're there for a month or two
