Smiley Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 4-5 nights. October. Just me and the youngest (14 - thinks she's 25). Cheap and cheerful is fine. Beach, bit of nightlife. Will do SC but also consider AI. Been about 17 years ago to Praia da Rocha. Happy to consider Albuefeira, Portimao or Vilamoura.... or wherever. Cheers in advance. PS. Is the money safe to touch? Smiley Posted August 13, 2016 Author Posted August 13, 2016 Alvor Funnily enough just had a Facebook message saying the same. Quote
Blondi Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I've never been to the Algarve, so I'll look forward to any recommendations on here. I have heard that Lagos is a pretty decent place to go to. Quote
Widnes Two Hats Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Albufeira old town is nice, great bars and food also cheap so you'll like that. Villamoura is situated round a huge marina, decent sandy beach just off the marina. Behind the marina is a square full of bars which are cheaper than the marina, behind the square is another square which is cheaper than the first square, flights to faro are ridiculously cheap and so is accommodation. If I was pushed to choose between the two I think it would be the old town Quote
Carlos Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 It costs 50 cents for a coffee and 1 Euro for a beer. Remember this and dont go drinking places that charge 6 Euro. Ive done Faro for £20 and stayed in Faro so 2 Euro on the bus. Cheap as fuck. Quote
tomski Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Another one recommending Aburferia old town. Top place with some lovely restaurants. Quote
Ani Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 We stayed half way between vilamoura and albuferia was ideal, both good places. We got a taxi to the new town one night. It was awful. There was a beach but we stayed by pool was ask our lass where it was. Quote
Burndens Bogs Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Another Old town Albufeira fan here, in fact i'm going on Sunday. But also nice - Carvoeiro,Lagos,Alvor. Personally i'm not keen on Villamoura or Praia Da Rocha, but each to their own an' all that. Quote
Smiley Posted August 15, 2016 Author Posted August 15, 2016 Finding SC/RO places in Albufeira for £25 per night - with pool. And similar in Alvor for £17 per night! Must be shite at these prices??? Quote

I find 3star and below a bit shoite, 5 star a bit too quiet and poncey.4 Star gaffs are usually about reet. Quote

Been recommended Oasis Parque Country Club in Alvor - looks a bit out of the way from everything, but decent gaff and good reviews. Looking about £45 per night or £55 with parking. Guessing would need a car to get about anyway. Albufeira - there's a gazillion hotels & apartments. Recommendations wouldn't go amiss. Quote
Smiley Posted October 28, 2016 Author Posted October 28, 2016 (edited) Weather was a bit iffy. Mix of sun, rain, monsoon and cloud! Alvor was lovely. Great street with restaurants and bars leading down to the harbour and the seafood restaurants. Beach was clean and had a great boardwalk. Did the lighthouse at Cape St Vincent. And also drove to Seville for the day (great weather). Popped by Praia da Rocha - had changed, since I last went, but was raining so didn't hang about. Found Albufeira a bit Blackpoolish. Had a few hours there. Vilamoura was nice, marina very stylish, upmarket and good beach. Though it lacked the character that Alvor had. Ate out in Lagos in the town, but the marina looked decent. Nice place, great old town area. Popped to a beach restaurant in Ferragudo - Rei das Praias - very nice - but it was monsoon and thunder storms so didn't get the full experience. Overall enjoyed it. Definitely needed the car for the full trip. Edited October 28, 2016 by Smiley Quote

Smiley Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 Would you recommend say spending 4 nights in Alvor and maybe 4 nights in Lagos for a multi trip holiday in the summer? Why not. Not sure if there is a beach close to Lagos. Others may be able to shed some light on that. Quote
freds dad Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 There are beaches in and around Lagos but I would stay in Alvor as the beach is fantastic and either hire a car or use the local buses to get around. Quote
