You're just regurgitating the rubbish you heard at the time from the moaners at Burnden. He played over 500 league games for clubs where his dad wasn't coach.

He wasn't a patch on another young midfielder we had at the time but he got picked regular

From what I recall he was a good consistent midfielder for us but when he left Steve Thompson flourished and was twice the player. He seems to have done very well as a youth coach and is highly regarded. Strange move to Wigan though.
