A few times. At the old Railway in BX and the Lions Den in Manc. They are excellent.

About 20 years ago had tickets for Move urban festival at LCCC

REM headlined the last day

I don't mind them, like some of their hits but they were never for me in terms of listening to albums and never made any attempt to go watching them

After getting on it the previous two days there (manics and Charlatans were the other headliners) I nearly didn't bother with the Sunday

Was one of the best gigs I've ever been to, Stipe was a great front man

Not a massive fan of REM, they were good songs to start learning guitar. Might not be a popular choice but my favourite album is New Adventures in HiFi - still listen to it, its by far their best album.

I don't even have a favourite album

I like the songs

Sidewinder sleeps tonight

Imitation of life

Leave

End of the world as we know it

I can't stand losing my religion

But they have enough decent hits to put on a good show

Get New Adventures stuck on Electrolite is a belter

New Adventures is very very good. Though suffered from being thought of as recorded on tour in soundchecks throwaway kind of thing. E-bow is stunning as is Electrolite, Leave, etc.

I’d recommend Lifes Rich Pageant and and Murmur as the best of the 80s stuff. Automatic is of course their well known classic and chock full of songs you’ll know.

Monster was always my favourite REM album.

Bought it 'for my dad' for Father's Day one year one if many in what was supposed to be his collection that came with me when I moved out.

I think I'd have to say The Best of REM

It's only marginally shitter than the original

The kind of thing you expect from a youtube musician not one of the biggest bands on the planet.

The Mrs is at Sunday Brunch tomorrow and I believe the Lottery Winners are performing if you're into them.

Aye

Terence and Philip

Youri was a big fan

Also if your unto Northern Soul, the Proms has a fantastic Northern Soul night tonight live from the Albert Hall live on radio 3 at the moment.

It's curated by Stuart McConie and its utterly brilliant.

Nowt - I'm doing Sunday lunch now as she's working.

In a bit of Mastodon love-in at the moment. The lastest album isn't that great but Gigantium is a belter

Also, I've got Blurs The Narcissit on a loop, such a great song.

Just started listening to this BBC podcast series about R1 in Ibiza.

Dunno if it's any good yet, hopefully won't just be a present day EDM fest but might interest a few.

(Turns out it's relatively wank)

I’d probably say Life’s Rich Pageant, Green or Document are the best albums. All depends at which point they came into your life. As for set lists, they have such a rich abundance of songs - it’s almost impossible to call.

Sadly, when I saw Stipe the other week, they’d agreed to allow some female singer on stage for the encore - at which point they performed Sidewinder and Shiny Happy People - two of my least favourite songs… the latter killed the band for a while IMO. Though, I’ve no doubt its a pisstake.

Shiny Happy People was a slogan used by the Chinese government at the time of Tainamen Square. The arrangement with Katie Pearson should have enhanced rather killed  the irony

I probably knew that once upon a time and then forgot. Some great facts on this thread. It was actually used for the opening credits to Friends before The Rembrandts song. MS says he loves the song but wouldn’t want to sing it!

The new Dexys album is awful, the Guardian review has it as "at turns discomfiting, brave, baffling and hugely impressive" so maybe it's just me.

I had a listen to a few of the songs yesterday

Will not be making that mistake again.

It sounded like background music from CBeebies

Very good description. Like listening to an 'In the Night Garden' soundtrack.
