Not given their new album a spin yet. On my playlist for tomorrow.

A few new Snow Patrol songs doing the rounds on Spotify ahead of the new album. A couple are ok.

And likewise a few new James songs on Spotify. Standard fayre for Booth & co.

Don’t give in is an excellent track

I didn’t realise it was them

Never been to a James gig yet, i really need to make it happen

Love that track , curse curse off Le Petite Mort

The chasing cars overkill on any tragic story has made me despise snow patrol

Here goes....

The Artic Monkeys are the most over rated band in 3 generations.

The new album has just made my previous comment look like the biggest understatement I've ever uttered.

Had a listen this morning and it is SHIT

Oddly, they played it on Jools the other night. Very unusual. Usually come on and play new stuff when there's an album on the horizon.

after 1 listen of the new Arctic Monkey's album, had I paid £80 to see them play most of it at the arena, I'd be pissed off

The arctics new album is shockingly bad. It's not "it needs a couple of listens" it's fuck me this is bad.

A mate of mine has said "after 7 or 8 listens" it's good.

Not sure I want to give it that many!

Utterly brilliant music on bbc4; Bacharach

Heard it being described as a mature change in direction

Mature = boring

As for change in direction, it sounds like stuff that wasn't good enough for the last shadow puppets

They should've stuck to rock/guitar led music

just gave that artic monkeys album a listen

like many others have side, it's a bit shit

every song at this years eurovison was better than any track on that

Slayer at the arena, on sale today... Might give that a go

I couldn't believe the reviews. The vast majority have said how great it is and what a progression it is in terms of musical style. I even read a mention of a direction change al la Radiohead, Kid A it fucking well is not!!

Its utter fucking pissfroth.

I've listened to it maybe 4 times now and there isn't a single stand out track.

When Radiohead did Kid A, it was a total shift in sound and style. 20 years on, it's still utterly fantastic in its own right and has justified their decision.

What the Arctics have tried to do is say "Hey, we're going into lounge music, shedding the guitar-led riffs and changing style" but have got 2 things horribly wrong:

1. The music is just dull as fuck. If you're going to change, be good at the new stuff. Disaster for them as it turns out they are not suited.

2. Their fanbase isn't interested in them changing direction. Radiohead fans were miffed at first but were tolerant and moved with it (not all).

They've just fucked up. I still doubt they'll give a shit.

I will say that they have a superb drummer who probably managed to do this album in about 2 hours and fucked off to the pub whilst the singer sat brooding at his piano. Wasted.

1 what makes it dull?

2 doesnt make it shit. Poor career move, maybe

i actually heard 30 seconds of 1 track and it sounded a bit bowie

ill listen to it on the way home

I've listened to Tranquility Base about 4 times. Just hasn't grabbed me. I don't get it.

Moving on, new Half Man Half Biscuit, not dull or shit.

It's dull in that they are tackling a genre that they've not really bothered with before and taken at face value without the AM name against it, it wouldn't get a mention beyond a few words at the back of the Q reviews pages. It plods. It threatens to go somewhere then doesn't. It's like a drunk wank, just peters out after too much effort and no result.

Spider, you nailed it there EXACTLY.

theyre never still at it

tranmere twats  :)

reckon Alex Turner has had too much sun and drugs in LA and disappeared up his own arse

I'd like to think previous-new-best-mate Josh Homme has kicked him out of his desert ranch and told him to fuck off and not come back

It's like there's not a single hook on the whole album. Live, the rhythm section will be bored rigid.

Looking forward to hearing the new James stuff at KGH tonight.

Think its had 4 spins on Spotify for me also. Nowt much to oil my loins.

Some bands just knock out shite albums. I've still not got over Courteeners and Concrete Love.
