Somehow missed Shardlake. Done 3 of the 4 and pretty good.

Shame diversity and inclusion bollocks has to depict a multicultural 1500's England mind. Before the r word warriors are on the march, it would be equally as disappointing if a series in the south of England did not reflect the cultural mix at that time. Accuracy or, as Thomas Cromwell would say, precision. Not too much to ask.

To be fair, asking only for accuracy. Like your spelling of IsrealIsrale, Israel.

You and the two stumps know full well that this is purely inclusion and diversity nonsense. Surprised they haven't invoked the usual 'r' word attack though.

You were all going to get some more of my great love of Sir Coxsone The Downbeat, King Stitt, Marvin Gaye and many more. Fuck all to do with skin colour - just accuracy.

No surprise that you in particular wouldn't want to focus on that.

He's right y'know. When making a TV programme based around a talking scarecrow its important to make sure its 100% accurate to the original source material.

Nothing every should be updated, nothing should ever be changed, no apatation, no change, everything needs to be preserved in aspic.

I'm with you on this.

If it's supposed to be historically accurate, show it as it was. Owt else is taking the piss.

Think people need to read up a bit about Tudor England.

Its also a fictional account, of which the author was behind.

Darren Grimes moaning about a black bloke playing Othello is a classic of this genre.

Indeed he is. Refers to himself as a ‘politician’ now he’s a local councillor.

around 200 from a population of 4,000,000?

if you want historical drama to more closely represent modern cultural diversity than historical accuracy, that's fine.

if you prefer historical accuracy, that's also fine.

but they are 2 different things.

They are two different things. So its an historical drama - drama being the key word. Its not a documentary.

Precisely. I prefer the latter.

The latest (2-parter) episode of 24 Hours in Police Custody 'The Butcher of Suburbia' is worth watching...

Just watched it, what a cold fish he was. Mind you, they're all a bit strange round the Letchworth area.

I half expect one of these shows to feature someone off here some day.

Shawshank Redemption, generally regarded by all as the greatest movie of all time, has the Red character played by the very black Morgan Freeman.

in the book, he was a white ginger Irish bloke.

Please can we all write a letter of complaint

historical dramas must waste a shit loads on costumes and sets if they're not interested in historical accuracy.

It baffles me that anyone gives a flying fuck about this sort of stuff. There's only one reason I can think of...

think you're getting confused with historical documentarys

the clue is in the word drama

it's called artistic license

aaaand the usual retort.

You really couldn't be further off the mark.

and again, no confusion. In every other respect they'll strive for authenticity.

If you're recreating a historical scene with 100 people, mostly extras, that would at the time have had 100 white faces, why throw in a smattering of non-white faces. Genuine question.

Seems patronising to me.

Are you bothered by inaccurate character ages or hairstyles or body shapes too? Or the state of their teeth? Or the fact they aren't all constantly drunk, or shitting themselves because of poor sanitation? What makes skin colour such an important factor?
