Its a fair point that saying 'awful signing' is premature, especially without seeing him play for us first, or how his fitness measures up after a few months.

But equally, we will all have to avoid saying 'brilliant signing' when we sign a proven championship striker for a couple of million 😄

Nobody knows, they might not settle in, they might get injured, they might just not play very well for us. Simons and Burstow were categorically great signings for a couple of months, agreed by everyone, and then relegated to just "signings". Gale had a similar status. Cissoko etc.

So, no great signings and no awful one's until at least we can judge at the end of the season.

(Unless we've had them on loan for 6 months, they've been crap, and we've gone back and paid money for them).

People haven't come to terms with the fact the 25 year old version that left Preston would have cost us £5 million at the minimum, you regularly have centre backs in this league now going for that even up to £15 million, this ain't league 1, you ain't finding top proven talent for cheap.

A free transfer with experience.

He possibly won't be the only centre half we sign neither.

Doesn't overly concern me if he can't manage a full season- none of our current ones did this.

If he can use his experience and help the others improve their game then all is well.

A few players have caught my eye from teams traditionally we could compete with at this level but with their performances in a world cup will cause their values to go crazy.

Temple and Inwood will learn a lot from him, both are good young prospects.

Possibly even Toal too..

Whether they will get a go in the first team yet though is another question.

Really hope they do- Conway did well after a season on loan so who knows.

He likes to make extreme statements (I don't even think he believed in half of them), when I questioned them with stats he normally backed down but if I offered a difference of opinion, he used to claim I was ruining the site and stopping people having any opinion other than the one I held - which is just bollocks - isn't that the exact thing good forums want, healthy exchange of views from opposite standpoints?
