And apparently if we'd have stayed down that lump Fletcher was on our radar.

From Thommo that.

And me!

Just reminded myself of the last transfer windows when I was bigging up Kenny as a top young prospect whilst half the world was calling him gash, the likes of Hardie, Nombe and Apter were the mutt’s nuts and most of the players we were linked to never came anywhere near us. Plus our initial bid for Watson was rejected - but we’ve got him eventually. Transfer rumours are entertaining TBF but I’m taking everything with a pinch of salt until the window closes and we know what we’re actually dealing with, but I’m sure we’ll be fine given that for the most part Fergal has done well and there’s clearly a longer term strategy in place.

That’s just boring Lusty. Scanning the news and trying to work out who might be coming is half the fun and anyway you had the last laugh with Kenny when the majority dismissed him and wanted Hardie. We dodged a bullet there didn’t we but Nombe may still be on the table?

Few saying there's a clue on the flag in this post from @officialbwfc today. No idea but it's the sort of tease the admin do.

And the rest of us are still laughing over his brilliant analysis of Dalby.

(You know, the one who won the Player of the Year award).

Nombe belongs nowhere near the championship

He played for a shit team that went down

You have a bias to South Yorks teams

He's not what we want either last season or the next

I'd love to see Connell back in a Bolton shirt, but I'm not sure he's good enough for the Championship.
Very good L1 player for sure. My favourite non-Wanderer in league 1.

Not sure its fair to say we dodged a bullet on Hardie, other than the fact that he got injured, as Kenny did but his was a bit later in the season. Of course Kenny looked good at times and scored a few and assisted a few - no doubt about it. But Hardie is a proven goalscorer at L1 level, he'd still represent a good L1 signing if fit. As good as some of Kenny's moments were, he only started 11 games and we failed to win 7 of them, 8 if you include Wycombe when we were 2 down with him playing and scored 3 after he was replaced. Let's not build him up as a reason we went up. We won as many games after he got injured (3 consecutive) as we did in his 11 starts. If he hadn't signed I'm sure we'd have still got in the play offs and gone up.

Maybe not but I don’t think Hardie featured much for Huddersfield after his move, injury accepted and certainly didn’t perform as Kenny did once he was fit and playing regularly. They’re both debatable points I accept but as of where we are now I’d certainly take Kenny over Hardie for next season. We may have neither of course in which case the subjects defunct. 🤷‍♂️

No question he was in a shit team last season but to be fair he was injured for a good part of it. I don’t have a bias towards South Yorks teams but living here and watching them more frequently than most it could I suppose be seen that way. I think you’re wrong about Nombe and the Championship because that’s where I believe he’ll be next season either with us or elsewhere because he certainly won’t be at the New York.

3 goals in 54 games at Championship level, not what we need

I agree he's a decent player and as with Hardie its incorrect IMO to say we got lucky by not getting him (nobody actually said that, but it was inferred), he's got nothing to prove at L1 level, same as Hardie, if we were still there and had those 2 up front I'd see that as decent. But its hard to plead a case for him as a championship striker, I don't see him at that level next season without a really good L1 season behind him as he'd had a relatively flat couple of years where he's had injuries and been in a team relegated twice. That doesn't make him a bad player but it would take a brave manager to say he's our striker for the championship.

Dalby is better than Nombe.

If we are bringing in a forward I'd want our sights to be much higher than him.

On Sam Nombe, these are the reasons I wouldn't sign him:

  1. August – October 2025: Suffered a serious injury just two games into the 2025/2026 campaign that sidelined him for over two months. Sam Nombe has a notable history of hamstring and muscle injuries throughout his career. His most significant recent setbacks include missing several months early in the 2025/2026 League One season with severe hamstring and quad issues

  2. November – December 2025: Picked up a quad injury shortly after returning to action, forcing him to miss further matches.

  3. March 2022: Missed substantial time due to a hamstring injury sustained during his spell at Exeter City.

  4. December 2021: Sustained a major hamstring tear that ruled him out for the double-digit weeks of the season.

His hamstring and Quads have a regular habit of keeping him out of the squad

So you copy and pasted from google?

some I typed and some I found on transfer net injuries, and some from other sites, I'm not sure what your point is? The lad has had the same injuries near enough for the last couple of years, would you want to risk money on him?
