I make it that 134 people have been killed by terrorist attacks in Europe in 2016.

Think of all the things that kill more people than that, which largely people don't give a fuck about (240 by drink driving in the UK alone). Yet there are apparently many who think the world would be a better place if we let millions suffer instead.

If it wasn't for our intelligence services, there would no doubt be carnage in the country and I dread to think of how many people may have been killed, I'd imagine we'd be talking thousands possibly killed, which wouldn't be comparable to the drink driving deaths.

Many of the Syrians coming into Europe are moderate business people who are educated and just want to escape life living in an Islamic caliphate run by ISIS (which the West helped create with years of failed foreign policy as Bolry has stated)

There are millions of decent folk coming out of Syria who would make a great contribution in the west, similar to the Iranians who came over in the 80's

Granted I didn't want the UK taking in millions, far from it, we had our own I mmigration issues, mainly down to the fact we speak English and it's a preferred choice for many migrants. It made sense though for Germany to take many more in as they have a shrinking / ageing population

Granted there are many good folk amongst the Syrians but unfortunately Europe can't continue to absorb the amount of people on the move and shouldn't have opened its borders, most are Moslems and in time this influx will completely change Europe, in my mind it won't change it for the better, let's hope this new wave of immigrants assimilate into western life however I'm not holding my breath.

Is that talking generally, or about terrorism? If there were no police, there would be more crime. I think don't think that's particularly remarkable.

What that says is we have to accept either terrorism or well, terrorism.

I don't like drink driving either.

Comparing one negative to another isn't really a sound arguement that convinces many to think "well that's OK then".

I'm open to suggestions of how to stop terrorism. I don't want to turn this into 'is terrorism worse than drink driving', because I hate those kind of discussions too.

I just wanted to make the point that something that is still a thankfully rare occurance, would have people sentence millions to spend the rest of their lives living in a war zone. That I can't get on board with.

I'd like to think that the majority will assimilate into western life just like many of the Iranians from the 80's. if anything they will improve the west by watering down our own bone idle benefit class who haven't had to struggle so don't appreciate what we have

What is it you always say about staying positive? If people don't give them a chance to assimilate in then your making it even harder from the outset. Stay positive Mounts

As I and many said at the time, what was the alternative?

Have you not seen the atrocities happening in Aleppo? Where do you want all those people to go?

Perhaps to another country that has the same or similar culture, religion and ideology preferably in the Middle East bringing them into a mainly Christian Europe won't end well.

My point is the Iranians who came were in the main not Moslems were running scared from Islamic fanatics and anti western religious headcases, that's why they assimilated and the numbers arriving then and now can't be compared.

completely different profile to the folk who are washing up in Europe at the present.

Not your best turn of phrase.

Incidentally Mounts - why do you choose to use the word Moslem instead of Muslim?

Tell that to the police of the German state of Thuringia who last week issued an open letter  describing the crumbling law-and-order situation amid rising migrant crime.

Sorry english link has gone http://www.focus.de/politik/videos/thueringen-brandbrief-der-erfurter-polizei-kritisiert-duenne-personaldecke_id_6349890.html

Same happening in other German regions and meanwhile representatives of an Arab community were reported telling the police in Ruhr, "The police will not win a war with us because we are too many." https://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article160263451/Die-Polizei-wuerde-den-Kampf-mit-uns-nicht-gewinnen.html

Not as rosy as you suggest.

I'd bet the numbers of Iranians that left us higher than you would think, I believe hundreds of thousands went to the US alone

I'm also of the impression that most were Muslim, just moderates who wanted to escape the fundamentalist nut jobs

Many similarities with Syrian refugees in my book as they are also escaping fundamentalist nut jobs (ISIS)

As I and many said at the time, what was the alternative?

Erm, stay and fight?

Horseshit.

Erm, stay and fight?

With what and on which side?

Horseshit.

It really isn't.

Iran for the most part of the 20th century up until the revolution had been a secular country, reinforced by the heavy hand of the Shah who through his "white revolution" made Iran the most advanced country in the middle east.

The people who fled the Islamic revolution in 1979 were mostly secular modernists.

With what and on which side?

Weapons don't seem to be an issue. I would advise the existing government.

It really isn't.

What religion is secular modernist

Or do you just mean that they weren't really religious so can't be categorised as Muslim?

If so how many Syrian refugees can also be classed as secular modernists?

Genuine questions

Erm, stay and fight?

Like your family did when they legged it from Poland?

It really isn't.

More eloquent than Mounts, I'll grant you.

But still horseshit.

Like your family did when they legged it from Poland?

Bit disingenuous that mate.

This blew my mind.

Not your best turn of phrase.

Probably not.????

Incidentally Mounts - why do you choose to use the word Moslem instead of Muslim?

Both spellings mean the same thing.

Women had a life too.  That part of the world is going backward and I'm fucked if we should let the rest of the world go the same way albeit their twisted beliefs or the ultra rights' way.
