George Michael

Featured Replies

As shit it is for a cultural icon like GM to die so young.

His musical impact ranks lower than 5 or so others that have passed in 2016 for me.

Bowie, Prince, Lemmy, Leonard Cohen and even Rick Parfitt.

Although RP gets in as my dad was a big Quo fan when I was a kid so grew up doing the Quo Strut.

  • Please - and trust me this is sound advice - do not reveal on here the rest of your top 100.

  • Reading about George Michael today, he sounded like a kind bloke, but he was a bummer and made pop music so I suppose it's best I be dead cool and say he was shit.

  • I just don't get these people who go into mourning when a celeb dies.   I must be one heartless fecker.

It may be my age but I thought Bowie was wank.

In fairness I'm nursing a hangover but off the top of my head I can think of more songs by Shakin Stevens.

Was never a fan myself. Then again, as much as I like music, never really been 'into' any band or indeed music genre. If a piece of music sounds good; great, if not sod it.

As has been pointed out to me, Lemmy died in 2015. Probably buried in 2016 though.

I see George was addicted to heroin.

I see George was addicted to heroin.

Knock Lemmy off the list then.

George can now take up the number 5 slot

:D

Kinell,Lemmy wrote about 3 decent songs in his life and they all sound like Ace of Spades.

To compare his songwriting skills with George Michael is just laughable imo.

Leonard Cohen was just a miserable cnut.

I'm sure about 10 years ago I read a story that he had made the decision to give all of his future royalties to charity on account of the fact that he had loads of money and really didn't need any more.

Some fantastic stories being told about his generosity.

One of our own gets a mention in the link below.

I don't think I compared his skills as a songwriter to that of GM.

Lemmy was like a God to me as a mosher teenager and seeing motorhead live at the Apollo is up in my top 3 gigs.

George wrote and performed some admittedly very good pop songs but his impact on me pales compared to Lemmy.

All this talk about who was the best. They were equally gifted in their own way and each appealed to different people. But what I will say is that George was a very sensitive lover, Bowie could have been but took too long putting on his make up and Prince, well he couldn't even reach.

The missus wants to go and put some flowers by his front door as he lived just down the road from us.

Didn't mind some of his tunes but not sure I want to be spotted on one of those outside broadcast things.  Anyway off we go.

RIP George

A more fitting tribute would have been to leave them at the back door

Not my cup of tea but Michael was all right. Good performer and seemed a pretty good bloke.

Some cracking tunes not bad for a faggot

Got to say, George was a far more interesting and decent bloke than I ever knew.

Likewise I don't get the people that have to slag the bloke off and call him shit.

They should've bent his lifeless corpse over the garden wall and planted them in his ringpiece - drape a sign over his buttocks for good measure 'THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS TO THOSE WHO DEFY MOTHER NATURE...*'

* this of course also includes Carrie Fisher, Bowie, Rick Parfitt and all the other Class A using/past use dead celebs.

We live in an age where outrage and being a grief junkie are fashionable. Seems to turn into a pissing contest as to who can be most outraged or most heartbroken.  It will pass.

Sad that what turns out to be a kind and generous bloke dies so young but you make your choices and must suffer the consequences.

Musically meaningless to me. Somewhere between elevator music and popsy wopsy production line dross.

IF this references my comment on the Carrie Fisher thread:

Not quite sure where you are going with the sexuality bit there - It doesn't bother me or defined him in my book. If you take the celebrity aspect away from either of these cases, I was merely pointing out that two either current or former users of class 'A' s have both died of heart failure before their time, and maybe we shouldn't be suprised..
