London Tower Block Engulfed In Flames

27 storey tower block gone up. I've never seen anything like it. Hope and prayers to all involved... appears to be families etc.

Hope everyone gets out, would be amazed- but fear the worst.

Apparently gas works taken place... hopefully nothing more sinister.

Why should people from the eu who have less skills and less to offer the uk be allowed in ahead of non Eu citizens?

Utter bollocks. Each case on its own merits on what they can offer the uk and what skills they bring and what gap they can fill

Be it a South African or a German. It's irrelevant and if you think stopping non eu migration is the answer then you're deluded

I don't. I was using it as a point to illustrate why people talking about 'pure numbers' are wrong.

You answered a question by giving that very reason but you don't believe it. Strange

To illustrate that if population increases were a problem, we could have significantly reduced them. Without worrying about the EU. My point is, that increasing population will continue when we leave the EU.

The problem is now irreversible. The population is too big we all know that. It's about how me best manage it now. Hugely reduced net migration numbers are necessary to try and help the problem

I think we are in agreement.

If that happened, then we wouldn't need the masses of unskilled immigration that we currently have. It's OK to say it, but it'll never happen, and no government will force them to work either, as they don't have the balls to do anything draconian, sadly.

We all know that here in the UK that people want produce/products at the very lowest possible price, they don't give a fuck if they are grown/made here in the UK or not - most people would rather buy for a kilo of spuds from China than they would for a kilo of spuds from the UK, if it was 10p cheaper. We know that the supermarkets are already more than happy to screw our farmers into the ground and are trying their best to decimate the UK farming industry, so they can add an extra few percentage points of profit. It's a pretty big concern if our farming industry loses this low cost unskilled labour, and the government knows it, so we need to do something to allow in unskilled migrants to do the work......that should be an interesting point of negotiation.....perhaps freedom of movement  :)

I've never had Chinese potatoes, do they have eyes like ours?

Fact of the matter is that if people stopped wanting to come here we would be fucked

Not only do we need immigration to supplement our workforce we also do not have enough children ourselves to service our aging population

Germany is really struggling with this as we speak and they have a huge crisis on their hands

Were lucky in many respects that so many want to come here, I can only put it down to the language barrier really, many more people speak English as a second language than they do German

You are wrong. Illegal immigrants from the EU who are living rough are deported regularly.

Yes - but only 95 homeless EU citizens were deported from London last year. Even if we presume that figure was matched across the rest of the UK, I can't see that making a massive dent in the figures can you?

I think is mainly, possibly entirely,  from London.

The point I was making is that your assertion was incorrect.

Mounts (who's perfectly capable of defending his own arguments by the way) was making a wider point about illegal immigration in general. Not a point about a tiny minority who (currently) have the right to live here legally but find themselves homeless.

So, McDonnell blames politics for the fire.

Possibly

But then to say that democracy isn't working/ hasn't worked.

We must need something different, then?

He was making the case for proportional representation. That and the abolition of an unelected house of Lords.

Of course he wants something different. Think Politburo; KGB, salt mines, gulags, dacha's in beauty spots for party officials etc. This represents the dream world for he and his best comrade.

Just think, you could enjoy queuing for hours for a loaf of bread; living in a grey and dour tenement; driving a peoples car with a 2 stroke engine that you may be able to get fuel for once a month.

Vote Jeremy. You know it makes sense.

McDonnell probably advocates 2 votes for every labour supporter, what another massive cunt he is, can't believe the Labour Party can find so many cunts then there's Abbot, and folk actually voted for that triumvirate. Astounding.

It was McDonnell said democracy not working I thinks it's working just fine given most folk voted against the bunch of traitors and kept them where they belong in 2nd place.

We had a referendum on PR back in 2012 or something like that

I'm sure first past the post came out as a clear winner, it's what I voted for

Given the dire state of both the Labour and Tory leadership (for me anyway) I'd probably go the other way this time

Calm down Doris - he's not suggesting we replace what we've currently got with a one party system, he was making the point that there might be alternative ways of calculating the vote to make it more representative of the actual turnout.

He was also speaking at an event called 'is democracy working?' which might give you some idea why he was on that subject.

The problem is there is just one version of First Past the Post, but there are many varieties of Proportional Representation.

[Rather like the more recent referendum actually!]

The reason for the PR referendum was because it was part of the coalition agreement to satisfy the LibDems (and secure their future?).

Of course what Cameron did not say to Clegg is we are going to absolutely rubbish the argument with bluster about the inevitable consequences.

Doh!  I normally change any such errors but as you've quoted it that would make me look even sillier now - thanks, mate ;)

Although, I always thought it was used as if to say 'here, here listen to him here' as opposed to hear as in listen?!

Perhaps both could be used and still be correct?  But not here hear and certainly not hear here?!

The technicality of grammar are not my strong suit it must be said.
