London Tower Block Engulfed In Flames

27 storey tower block gone up. I've never seen anything like it. Hope and prayers to all involved... appears to be families etc.

Hope everyone gets out, would be amazed- but fear the worst.

Apparently gas works taken place... hopefully nothing more sinister.

It's nice to meet someone who has a doubt.

:-)

Have they confirmed how many have lived?

I guess they don't confirm the dead till they 100% know someone is dead, ie they have been identified

A family of five turned up safe a couple of days ago who'd be doing their own thing

We know lots of people have died so don't see what could now be gained by somehow trying to cover up the numbers, what difference would it make now?

There will be an inquest, and the numbers will come out then. There's no need to keep it a secret.

The folk being moved into the 'luxury flats' are being moved into future social housing stock that was mandated as part of a wider development. Now I'm no expert on planning process but I believe that social and/or "affordable" units attached as strings to new developments are pretty common practice these days.

No state requisitioning, no folks getting the housing equivalent of a first class flight upgrade, just a bit of common sense. But I guess that doesn't make headlines.

The way I read the piece about the luxury flats was if the properties that the council would be taking up are also in the luxury bracket? Priced from £1.6m to £8m

I appreciate that generally affordable housing is built on the big developments and handed over for council housing but if I am reading this correctly then they are handing over properties that are worth huge sums, it just seems bizarre. Surely they would be better off selling the luxury flats on for a full retail price and investing that money into true affordable housing, surely the council would be able to build 3, 4 or even 5 times the number of properties this way

Seems a bit odd to me

Areas like Grenfell with 1970's poorly designed shit holes should be brought down with new modern (safer) properties taking their place, fully council owned if needs be. They spent £10m refurbishing the place ffs, that would go a long way towards a full rebuild surely

Admittedly a massive step up from the previous accommodation and not your typical council property in London

They seem more reasonable

The piece I read in the independent yesterday was a bit misleading then

They were talking about this on the radio yesterday, and saying that properties that are marketed as "affordable housing" are starting from £500K in some parts of London....and that is for 1 bed places

A bloke I know is in the process of buying a 2 bed flat in Shoreditch, It looks nice but nothing special.........£800K  :shok:

I think he told me the stamp duty alone is about £25K

By the way, he won't be moving into it, he's going to "AirBNB" it, which apparently is the thing to do now, as it reaps the largest rewards

Or he could just leave it empty Sweep

Or they could always count how many bodies they find and do away with the possibility that someone who lived there may have escaped both the fire and the immigration laws

He could, and just sit back and watch it go up in value. If I could afford to do that, then I'd be more than happy to do it, better than leaving your money in the bank. Investing in property in London will give you a yield far higher than any bank is willing to offer

Plenty of funds yielding 30% plus at the minute.

What level of investment required?

600 high rises identified with the same cladding as green fell. That's some bill for remediation works needed

Who'll end up paying for that? Council tax payers?

Suspect it will just be taken from The public purse as a matter of national emergency or something.

How or if the funds will ever be repaid to said purse is anybody's guess really I would say

anyone bought the charity single?

hopefully it raises plenty

Mrs May refused declined to pledge funds when asked this morning, so who knows?

If somewhere along the line a contractor has used the wrong stuff despite being told otherwise then they should pay.

If they've been told wrongly to use a certain product then whoever specified it should pay.

If the designers have recommended what the regulations say should be used, then the government should pay.

Or they could always count how many bodies they find and do away with the possibility that someone who lived there may have escaped both the fire and the immigration laws

just to be clear, is that to suggest that a load of illegal immigrants have died but they don't want to admit this, or that illegals who lived there and survived have gone into hiding so as not to get caught?

300-400 seems a lot either way

My mate is working on the insurance. £500m in reserve already.

They are currently flying drones round the building hunting for bodies

I heard that in some bits of the blaze that the temperature was possibly hot enough to pretty much vaporise bodies, they might end up sifting through the ash looking for teeth in order to try and account for some people. That is grim

Good job it's not round ere, no cunts got any.

Good job it's not round ere, no cunts got any.

Therein lies the problem, illegals and recently arrived immigrants don't have dental records and can't be identified from teeth. This was laid out quite early on when they were struggling to confirm numbers.

Some of the victims won't be identified. Sorry state of affairs.
