Crypto Currency

Anyone had a dabble?

I was told to get on bitcoin years ago but thought the lad who tipped me off was smoking crack. Turns out even a modest £1,000 investment then would have seen me become a multi millionaire now ffs

One lad I know has made about £700k on something called Ether from a few grand invested

Few of the lads are going balls deep into ripple bits as we speak

I'm weighing up a piece of the action

It looks like a volatile road but incredibly profitable if you land on the right peg

If you’re married, does that mean you need 2 million quid to be a millionaire?

I’m not suggesting you’re married to @captainmed 😘

No, just make sure she knows it’s not hers, it’s yours.

A news item on yesterday about a woman who was fleeced for £100k+ under the guise of cryptocurrency.

Apparently she ‘invested’ a couple of hundred pounds which, within a couple of weeks became a couple of thousand pounds. The problem was, it was all a confidence trick where the tricksters were willing to gamble a few thousand pounds that they’d come back in for greater reward.

The woman who just got 10x her original outlay came back with £100k. Strangely it was just before a downturn in Crypto’s value.

The millionaire comment was a joke btw

But if you do want to retire and have a 'good' retirement £1m is often quoted, but depends on a number of things

1 Do you own you home outright ?
2 Would you be prepared to downsize?

3 Do you want to leave anything to dependants.

My answers are Yes( because I used money from Pension) Yes and No so am happy to be retired at 58 with a lot less than £1M. The 2 things that really can catch you out are inflation and the majority of pension being taxed. Your state Pension at 67 will take up most of your tax free allowance. Maybe more if they keep triple lock but freeze  tax allowance,

It is a minefield but the only certainty is putting more in earlier gives you massively more and better options especially if you are employed and your employer chucks in too. If you are self employed pension contributions come out before any Corporation Tax so again makes sense to pay as much as you can in.

Yes. I have private pensions plus my SP and my tax free allowance is next to bugger all.

The job I retired  from was taxed at full rate, but should my tax code alter in April ?

Sorry, not crypto question.

Bitcoin has just reached another all time high. Not bad for something seen by some on here as a ponzi scheme

We've had to resign to the fact that any of my late brothers has now gone..

That said we have no idea how much he had, the companies simply won't give us or our solicitors the details.

So very high risk for long term investments..

That seems utterly ridiculous; what do they expect you to do?

Give them as much of your hard-earned as possible by lying that it'll make you rich one day.

Billions in lost currency,

I've a unique look on it, in that he enjoyed the risk, enjoyed investing, and it was never my money, so not worth worrying about.

Still bit annoying these companies keep it,

So it can make you rich one day. I’m glad you agree with “them” whoever them are.

Have you withdrawn/sold your bitcoin because of today's boost then?

Yes let’s withdraw in the middle of a bull run. 😂 not the brightest are you.

How much have you withdrawn by laying it? You're convinced it’s a scam and will fail so you will obviously be pumping money into it.

So can you spend it down the pubs and shops?

Or buy houses and cars?

Or do you have to cash in first?

And if you are a crypto millionaire, how much would that be worth in actual money?

If you have crypto worth a million pound then it’s worth that.

Quite a lot of businesses now take cryptos, this link might explain it better.

I feel for that fella who lobbed his lap top, and realised that the crypto stuff on their was worth millions at the time.

Even offered to pay (plenty) to have the tip properly searched, but they refused.

if indeed he was telling the truth

I always found that an odd case

the council said no becuase the cost of diggin up landfill coudl cost them millions, and they might not even find it, whiich is all fair enough, along with an environmental impact of doing so

he seemed to be angling to sue the council for something that he said existed, but had no proof it ever did

and personally I think if the laptop was the key to his bitcoin endeavours, it wouldn't have got thrown away when clearing out a load of old equipment

I'm calling bullshit, or tough shit
