Crypto Currency

Anyone had a dabble?

I was told to get on bitcoin years ago but thought the lad who tipped me off was smoking crack. Turns out even a modest £1,000 investment then would have seen me become a multi millionaire now ffs

One lad I know has made about £700k on something called Ether from a few grand invested

Few of the lads are going balls deep into ripple bits as we speak

I'm weighing up a piece of the action

It looks like a volatile road but incredibly profitable if you land on the right peg

if indeed he was telling the truth

I always found that an odd case

the council said no becuase the cost of diggin up landfill coudl cost them millions, and they might not even find it, whiich is all fair enough, along with an environmental impact of doing so

he seemed to be angling to sue the council for something that he said existed, but had no proof it ever did

and personally I think if the laptop was the key to his bitcoin endeavours, it wouldn't have got thrown away when clearing out a load of old equipment

I'm calling bullshit, or tough shit

Maybe.

He wouldn't have been able to sue them though, for something that was his fault.

Twas a good story either way.

And he wouldn't have been able to sue them without proof that the laptop loaded with millions of bit coin ever existed

Whiffs of those stories of hard up families who get £5000 of Christmas presents robbed from under the tree a whole 3 weeks before Christmas

I feel for that fella who lobbed his lap top, and realised that the crypto stuff on their was worth millions at the time.

Even offered to pay (plenty) to have the tip properly searched, but they refused.

Serves him right for chucking it in landfill, he should have recycled it

Indeed.

Still don't know what he'd have got out of having it all dug up, apart from a fucking huge bill he couldn't afford.

A bigger ballooner than Trump!

😁

Forgot I had something called Ethereum.

It’s gone from not existing yet being worth a modest amount, to still not existing but being worth quite a lot.

I’ll never understand it.

But if it reaches a point where I can retire I won’t give a shit

I know next to f’all about crypto but just saw that Bitcoin has surged massively this week, particularly after Trump won.

Am I right in believing that it’s doubled in value this year alone?

I just don’t fucking get any of it

Cash it in and buy us a defender and a striker

as in i can exchange it for cash?

Yep

No.

Only toilet rolls.

Yes you can close your trade and it will be in your bank pretty much straight away.

In cashing them in, are they actually sold on to another person?

aye, do you actually see something

i think the issue is that most people probably own fractions of a block?

my mates lad use to try to mine em, whatever that entails

I think that’s the case on some platforms however they’re not all the same.

No

yes many people will own fractions, more so since the price reached stupid figures.

So this thread started 7 years ago, the price has gone through the roof so imagine there are some proper millionaires on here today. Even more than usual I mean. They just do not like to talk about and hide by going about their normal working day.

Or retire like I did.

They go up and go down. They are currently going up. They have gone down more often and folk have had their fingers burnt.

Had XRP at less than $0.30 7 years ago. Saw it get up to $3.50 (and bought heaps more at higher prices along the way). Was sat on a pretty fortune. Then it crashed. I hadn’t cashed out and was stuck with them all the way down to less than $0.10 during Covid. I think Bitcoin was back below $4000 during covid. Maybe much lower. Folk said it was doomed. Look at it now. XRP is hovering around $0.88 now. Think I’ll cash out at $2 if it makes it that far on this bull run.

On Talksport this afternoon they were talking about some American footballer who had insisted he be paid in Bitcoin. His $750,000 was now worth $1.2m apparently, if he's held onto it. Decent but not quite the south sea bubble levels some had predicted.

Isnt lilly allen said to be a massive loser in this daft game?
