The Tories admitted months ago that the rail dispute had already cost the country more money than the pay settlement would. That's basically digging in and pissing money away.

Governing is difficult, sometimes hard calls have to be made, can’t allow unions to hold government to ransom.

I expect labour will soon find out how hard it is, I’d be voting for them if allowed, hope they do a great job but wouldn’t be jumping on the Labour governments back for every mistake. Playing Party politics stinks and often makes folk look stupid.

You’ve done it for ten years on this thread. Seems a bit rich telling others to stop. 😁

Surprising, as the thread is less than 6 years old.

I know a bloke who works for the treasury but it's actually the dept that manages the UK's taxes on the market. God knows why he does it as he could get triple just working in the city but he feels this is in someway more moral.

Anywhose, so he's a decent, quiet and mild mannered sort of chap - likes a Guinness - and very professional in terms he keeps his personal politics very close to his chest. Had a quick drink with him on my birthday and for the first time he offered an opinion and just said that the last 8 years have been the hardest he's ever known in 30 years doing the same job. Not just the voiltilty, but the disorganisation at the heart of government. Its got many decent people down, and as a country we could, and should do and demand better.

This is at least the second iteration of this thread, so it probably is nigh on 10 years. The previous one got deleted because a few of the Gammons got a bit too Gammony.

Whats Labour party solution? Just agree to any demand? that's what I would call non government. It is our taxes that government are looking after and I expect government to negotiate fairly and firmly.

How about sitting down and making a counter offer? That is how a negotiation works when adults are involved.

Did you miss that there has been an agreement?

What was this yesterday then ?

Who mentioned doctors? Nurses, police, fire, rail, if I’m not mistaken all settled and through negotiation with government …non-goverment you said.. proven to be utter bollocks.

Nurses haven't agreed, it's gone to the members and the I have a feeling it is going to be rejected.

I'm not so sure. I think it's as good as we're likely to get sadly. And the unions have recommended it to their members.

They've basically told us that if we don't accept then they don't hold out much hope of another improved offer any time soon.

Giving a speech on economics and taxation, and blaming her downfall on "the woke". It's like living in an episode of The Day Today.

Has there been a more deluded, over promoted person in UK politics? Ever?

She gave a speech in Washington about how she was frustrated that interested parties were resisting change.

You can just imagine the NRA having her very much in their sights !
