I also forgot move to another country notwithstanding the fact it’s been discounted as a viable option on here of course. But the frogs may actually have a better mindset and actually do something other than moan

The thing is we've had the Blair-lite Tory who tried to manage his party with a public refurredum and had to resign.

We've had the boring, admin Tory who ended up with so many daggers in her back from her own party even Julius Ceaser would have winced.

And finally we have the populist Tory, a man who can seemingly convince the public to vote for him by shambling around lying and is now the first PM ever to be convicted of a crime in public office.

Personally, I think as a party they've had enough chances to get it right.

The issue is, it's nigh on impossible to vote them out.

I certainly wouldn't go to far to say it's rigged by any stretch of the imagination, there isn't some despot not counting votes or making sure people aren't voting etc Although people might say those boundary changes due in 2023 constitute a bit of a scam, however this is all done above board by the Boundary Comission every five years. Still if the last election was run with the new boundary changes Labour would lose a further 8 seats, the lib dems another 2 and the Conservatives would gain a further 13 (its this sort of stuff that seems to bore people but really matters when it comes to us having a say in who runs the country) As it stands its much easier for the incumbents to stay in power than for opposition to gain power. 

It also doesn't massively help people get engaged in the political system as in many places your vote is essentially worthless (I mean, it's not, but you know what I'm saying)

I see the Lords threw out the Tories plan to stop the independence of the electoral commission last night.

It has, but as I've mentioned before it's a bit of a too simple narrative. To gain power in the UK, you need to gain the chunks of South East Home Counties votes - as New Labour did. Without that whatever is going on in Scotland doesn't make a huge difference.

what Labour need to do in the next election is take back the old Labour strongholds - to show they are not just a party for the urbanites. That's the first step. 

Which is why the local elections are interesting, but it's not as clear as the Conservatives getting a shoeing, local elections are a bit more nuanced.

Firstly, the vast majority of the seats are being contested in London which Labour hold and there won't be much of a change here.

The really interesting points are certain councils. Interestingly like Bolton, where the Conservatives head up a minority council, however Labour can't take overall control unless they win against certain independants which will be difficult. One of the most telling seats will be Newcastle-Under-Lyme. The Tories hold a small majority but its played against the background of the fact that the Conservatives won the parlimentary seat there by just over 50% of the votes but that was a huge upswing, so if the Conservatives lose the council here by a large swing it does show that people are not happy and there is a move back to Labour.

But all the seats to watch out for are in the North and North Wales pretty much.

I swear I'm on ignore.

The victories in 1997, 2001 and 2005 didn't rely on scotland. A quite fact check in both 1997 and 2001 scotland had 72 seats up for grabs - labour had a majority of 88 on both those occasions. In 2005 (and up to tday) its 59 seats.

So they can get back in power without Scotland. Maths innit.

It makes in more difficult, but the crucial thing is getting home county and swing Northern towns on side
