In other news I notice Jacob Rees Thundercunt wants to lower the state pension increases.

Then says it needs to follow inflation.

A government made up entirely of dog biscuits would be preferable at this stage

Not seen his quote but the triple lock uses the higher of inflation or wage increase. (Or 2.5%) Wage increase is the highest at the moment. The inflation figure would seem to be the most practical in my opinion. (Which would mean a lower figure for us pensioners) Not sure what the dog biscuits reference is.

And we already have one of the lowest State Pensions in the Western World.

Yep. I’ve looked at a few sites to compare pensions but I found this one the most informative. As it says early on, it’s difficult to compare. Further down though it shows the amount each country contribute to pension provision and we are low down.
This isn’t a political point. I used to be on a union committee and the pensions committee. It affects every single one of us if we are lucky enough to get past the line. I know many, some off here, who didn’t.

I liked the French approach.

I think the likes of Rees Mogg would sooner raise the pension age to 75 and scoop great handfuls of pension cash into his own pockets rather.

He’s got “workhouse owner” written all over him.

I feel it in ma bones

Angela Rayner isn’t committing to it either. The friend of the working classes. Her MP’s pension is secured so pull up that drawbridge.

Our state pension isn’t good enough, if you’ve worked all your life and paid in the maximum amount then I feel the least the state should offer is equivalent of the minimum wage.

Angela Rayner isn't in Government, and there is no sign of a General Election.

She’s almost as relevant as Stephen Fry and he isn’t even a politician!

As far as an election, Within the next 15 months. Soon be here.

It’s dead simple. You pay in, you take out. It’s a fundamental economic principle of all developed countries. I’ve never known such a negative attitude towards pensions and worryingly, pensioners that’s emerged on social media and in normal life.
It could be better though as you say. I mentioned earlier that I prefer the French system. Some on here wouldn’t.

Then why did you bring her into the discussion?

Inaction man will stick, like Captain Hindsight did for Johnson against Starmer for a while before it all unravelled for him.

Anyway, this triple lock malarkey, surely the fairest metric to use should be inflation really?

I like the look of the French system. Our state pension, sadly, will always be shit until we start putting a larger percentage in.

I’d be in clover with the French system I’d be looking at 30k per year, instead of the 10/11k uk state pension… just shows how poor our state pension is.

I thought everyone on here had 7 figure private pensions made fat on the back of investments in Far Eastern sweatshops and evil conglomerates?

Presumably all this is about the triple lock, and the so called non commitment.

It is very relevant what all parties think of it, as folk would want to know before an election.

To dismiss one as not being in government so not relevant suggests unease at that lack of commitment.

Anyway, from what I can gather the current incumbents seem to have committed to it, but rumours that "wages" will be those increases based on salaries without bonuses included which currently is around 0.9% lower than those with.

Both are higher than inflation.

We'll see in time what they all propose.

I've never bothered doing a full comparison, so I'll ask this in full ignorance.

When comparing pensions, are things like health insurance included- we obviously get that free, whereas others require some sort of additional contribution, which presumably still needs to be paid once retired?

About Transformers coz there's more than meets the eye.

Aye but my Dad retired as a Head in 2008 at 54. Already paid off the mortage (even after my mum was doing her degree whilst we were at secondary) its not about pensions so much as the ability to be debt free.

It's irrelevant until a General Election is announced and manifesto's are finalised. A lot can happen in 15 months.

No point committing to something without seeing the books. Sensible politics. You probably don’t remember that as we haven’t had it for 13 years.

Amazing to think the last "sensible" PM we had was probably David Cameron, who inadvertently brought on this entire shit show. As much as I disagreed with his politics, at least he wasn't an absolute fucking buffoon. We need a reset similar to what the Yanks have had since Biden was elected. Yes, he makes the odd gaffe which is magnified when it's condensed into a 10-second clip on twitter, but at least he's getting stuff done.

Bring on the boring-as-fuck Starmer. Blissful dull efficiency.
