Reading this thread has shown me I needed to pay the CC this week never had to previously. 

So I do care what happens in London as will anyone who's down here for work regularly.

Turns out I can pay a tenner a year for blue badge holders but I don't have the necessary paperwork with me. Hopefully won't have to take the car out of the car park til we head home Friday morning so only the one charge to pay.

I see no reason why Electric Vehicles should be exempt from a 'Congestion Charge' though. ULEZ exempt - yes, but if the intention is sheerly to reduce traffic congestion rather than air pollution, then why shouldn't they pay the same as everyone else?

Exactly- London has the best public  transport system in the UK. Im now quickly finding out how car dependent the shires are.

As I mentioned earlier, surely there should be some incentive to switch to EV ?

My 8 year old diesel is ULEZ complient (as is Crawleys car). If I was delivering into London daily, and by using a EV I could save £4k a year on CC charges, It would be an incentive to do so. With the abolishment of the CC exemption, that incentive has just gone, and I continue to drive a diesel into teh city centre.

 

Its not ideal, but these are the decisons politicians have to make, and it feels like theres a lack of joined up thinking here, unless, the intention is to extend the ulez to all non zero emission vehicles.

 

And as someone else said, it matters, because the same will happen up here.

You're conflating 2 different issues though - as I mistakenly did earlier. The Congestion Charge is to reduce traffic, not air pollution. You are probably right that they should work hand-in-hand for the best of both worlds though.

Polls are showing their vote is starting to return from reform and don’t knows, so I suspect it will be closer than many of the campaign polls show in the end. It usually is.

Also sad to see that whilst the Conservatives are a shower, at least they are not a load of posh grifters,  easily taken in notrights and a load of ex Tories who are now trying to find a way of distancing themselves from the mess they helped facilitate.
