Actually I think it’s beyond just dialogue, there has been a dozen papers etc in the last five years alone. That’s why feelings are high, there has to be visible action based on the similarities in findings in these reports.

Good debate on here. Interesting reading.

Watched Sir Geoff Palmer on Sky News on Saturday evening. Very good interview. Basically saying the BLM (or those using this for their cover) has shot itself in the foot with the statues, violence and graffiti and put race relations back not forward!

Oh, and he’s a black man who isn’t offended by a metal statue. Worth watching.

He definitely IS offended by them, but he wants them to be seen with some accompanying context, rather than removed entirely.

The sensible ones on here have been saying this since this all kicked off. Looters, statue defilers etc. have taken away from the important message.

Either thick, sinister or just plain thieves.

Not the same interview. They interviewed him again on Saturday evening.

He DOES want plaques erecting on these statues, as do most level-headed folk, but he definitely said walking past one didn’t bother him as it’s just a piece of metal - or something along those lines.

Made a big thing of saying the statue issue and vandalism has set back the whole BLM message.

The initial protests could have been done so much better. Socially distanced. Candles. Etc. And with some less antagonistic banners.

Anthony Joshua’s speech was so powerful - yet the bit about businesses completely undermined all the good he actually said and created more antagonism.

The defacing of statues, vandalism, looting (in the US mainly), the withdrawal of certain TV programmes and a media rhetoric that played up to all of this with very little condemnation created a huge amount of antagonism.

And then we had prominent tv stars all sucking up to this to score some great PR.

And now the Premier League has jumped on the BLM wagon.

All the above in such a short space of time was always going to fuel anger and resentment.

And back to our lovely media who again focussed on the negatives of Saturday when there were some great scenes with our war vets marching on the cenotaph. Check out the Sapper Ken videos.

The BLM message SHOULD and COULD work, they just need to offload the far left hooligans and criminal dickheads. And with it the far right would hopefully back off.

PS. Ironically seeing Rashford praise from those who had white hoods and burning crosses in their closets last week!

You couldn’t make this up!

Another question would be why are people so quick to be 'distracted' when the alternative is talking about racial inequalities.

'I was going to be all for ending systemic racism until they took Little Britain away' sounds like a cop out. There will always be something.

Well said.

I also don't think BLM are responsible for the actions of those idiots who started fighting with the police. They condemned those actions and when they knew counter protesters were visiting they urged all their protesters to stay at home. Not sure what else they could have done as a movement. Maybe some of there members could have gone out to try and descalate some situations to avoid anyone being killed - .... oh wait.

We all accept on here that the media often misreport and sensationalise things - and it works both ways against both sides.

There was some disgusting scenes in Glasgow and Newcastle of racist chanting and a female journalist being beaten up - both against peaceful protesters.

And I'm sure there were also plenty out just to protect cenotaphs and statues who acted peacefully - like the Manchester crew - who got little reporting.

Even if the BLM movement was perfect - there would always be those criticising with the All Lives Matter response & such. Good to see these converstations in the media and wider society. Lots of hypocrisy but it feels like this could lead to some meaningful action. It's just with so many people dropping below the poverty line post lockdown that will always be a worry for racial tensions.

Out of interest, where do you get your info re peaceful protestors at Glasgow and Newcastle ?

Re Newcastle, look who were throwing smoke bombs and bottles originally......yes, the so called peaceful protestors. All on film if you care to look.

Re Glasgow,  are you referring to Sunday's events  ? If so, there weren't any racist chants there or any protestors, it was purely people guardng the Peel statue,  though some Antifa turned up to try and cause trouble but were quickly sent on the their merry way. Glasgow police confirmed there were no arrests, assaults against police etc.

People are there again right this minute in George Square to protect the peel statue, yes I've got friends there this second,,.....all my information comes from people on the scene not bollocks read online or in a biased newspaper.

As for Manchester being peaceful, yes, I was there personally and it was peaceful, though the MSM don't really like to report those truths, which you've basically said yourself.

This is the so called racist chanting and rioting in Glasgow.

Ignore the headline, and and you'll see the two groups didn't even meet. Videos will show the ones who wanted to take the Peel statue down were swiftly chased away.

So called eye witnesses say police horses were attacked, though the police themselves haven't said this.

So London Wanderer, looks like you're basically talking shit 😊

The only thing I'd call those out for in the UK over the weekend is the obvious lack of social distancing. Bang on we'll be getting a second wave soon enough.

Seems a bit like double standards, criticising protesters for lack of social distancing and then attending the following weekend’s festivities yourself.

Bravo fella 👏 Another poster who hasn't actually read my post... If you go back over the small print you will find I refer to Glasgow and Newcastle.

The racist chanting, smoke bombs and missiles were reported in Newcastle. This will have been a minority of course but the whole counter demonstration was organised under the banner All Lives Matter against a protest that made it clear they had no desire to deface monuments or cause trouble - nor had they done the week before. Yet there were coloured folk who had bottles thrown at them whilst the crowd chanted White Lives Matter.

The indepedent female journalist was punched up in Glasgow - Thankfully it was one of the loyalists who stepped in and took her away asking his friends to stay.

Maybe read it twice this time round before replying ;)

I di read it twice fella, shall I get you a few videos from Newcastle to prove you are wrong as to who started the trouble  ?

Sadly, there has been trouble in Glasgow tonight with a number of arrests.

Stupid fuckers.

So why did you assume I was saying the racist chanting was in Newcastle then?

Englighten me with the videos if you wish - I'm always open to admit I made a mistake but I doubt the videos will prove anything about who started it.

I read about Newcastle in the Chronicle, police reports and also heard from a person on the scene. I posted in another thread last week about a friend and ex colleague in Newcastle who is a black women and had a bottle thrown at her - whilst also having to hear the other side chanting "you're the racists and white lives matter". To people of colour who were just protesting for justice for George Floyd and against systemic racism. Disgusting that they were on the receiving ends of those chants. IMO.

I say IMO because all of this is just that. I try to read as much of a variety as possible but I don't pretend to know everything that went on. I can't prove to you that people of colour experienced that on the day - I've just heard from multiple sources about the chanting. Nor can I prove to you about the female journalist in Glasgow. She hasn't gone to the media out of fear of being targetted. Whether you believe me is completely your choice fella - but I would like to hear you deny that some despicable racist shites were out in significant numbers on the weekend across the UK. Though I'm sure our definition of what is and isn't racism will differ.

Have to say I find it interesting that you say you get all your info from friends on scene rather than bias newspapers. As if none of your pals would have any bias whatsoever. Plenty of amazing reporting out there and plenty of shite reporting as well. The skills lie in deciphering what's shite and what's decent.

Anyway - I hope you enjoyed your day out in Manchester.

Standard Wednesday there

It was an anti - eviction protests in Glasgow - against the high numbers of evictions happening to people who have lost their jobs and can't afford rent.

Regardless of whether you agree with the anti-eviction protest - why the fuck are the SDL turning up to counter protest?

Anti - eviction protesters have cancelled and asked everyone to go home as it's not safe.
