May 15, 20188 yr That can not possibly be the best team in your lifetime. How did it do in the Premiership? Yeah shouldve been clearer thst I meant in terms of "style" following the statement about results v style Champions plus 100 points and 97 goals was the best haul I've seen, point being we've had both style and results, doesn't have to be one or the other Am sure if you cited BSAs top 8 finishes someone would say it was shit to watch even though it wasn't, 96/97 can't be disputed in anyway

However, premiership failure having invested further in the team still sours it for me. The teams Allardyce built were better in every single way. Without any question. They went toe to toe against some of the best teams in Europe. I'd rather watch Okocha at his best or Youri than any of the 96/7 players. By a million miles.
May 15, 20188 yr Loads of middle ground between not creating a single chance for hours on end and going to watch Man City instead We lost ten straight games without scoring a goal, tge worst run in the clubs history Question marks and criticism over the leadership team are fair enough IMO. It’s not just a case of moaning for moaning’s sake
May 15, 20188 yr Loads of middle ground between not creating a single chance for hours on end and going to watch Man City instead nobody said there isnt but if youre going wanting to be entertained, why fcuk about watching us go and see the real thing it might even be cheaper
May 15, 20188 yr so in order to be entertained as a football fan you cant expect more from your own club, you have to fuck off to one of the bigger sides down the road? aye alright
May 15, 20188 yr so in order to be entertained as a football fan you cant expect more from your own club, you have to fuck off to one of the bigger sides down the road? aye alrightignore him he’s old
May 15, 20188 yr Is there an area on this spectrum where we just don’t boot it aimlessly or aimed to the smallest man on the pitch? And they look like they have been training together all week. That would appease a lot of fans.
May 15, 20188 yr so in order to be entertained as a football fan you cant expect more from your own club, you have to fuck off to one of the bigger sides down the road? aye alright didnt say that but, if your priority is to be 'entertained' why the fcuk watch us i get my entertainment seeing us win
May 15, 20188 yr so in order to be entertained as a football fan you cant expect more from your own club, you have to fuck off to one of the bigger sides down the road? aye alright I was entertained the last two seasons more than the previous 5. Most fans were. If you want, pretty, winning football then a relatively small town club is unlikely to provide it on a consistent basis in the current football climate. Harsh truth. But definitely is the case.

Ive never said that. But there must be a more progressive style you can get out of our players than we have seen. anyone who says there isnt, god forbid they ever be involved on football at any level But i will ask a question for arguments sake, did you enjoy our promotion from league 1 more or less than the title winning team of 97? no beating around the bush bollocks just a straight yes or no answer will suffice.. i already know the answer and the reason why but ill ask non the less Edited May 15, 20188 yr by barrycowdrill

May 15, 20188 yr Did you enjoy our survival last season more or less than being relegated in 97/8? just answer the question pal, which promotion did you enjoy more? comparing relegation to survival doesnt warrant an answer
May 15, 20188 yr and for balance, we also had 20 or so games where we were comfortably top half form No qualms with the 20 odd games where we played well, just the 10 at the start and 8 at the end I’m not saying you win every game, I appreciate you go on bad runs, our bad runs seem to be as bad as anything out there though It’s not all the manager of course, the players have to take a big chunk of responsibility, hopefully we move a few on and bring better players in, that will help However Parky for me also has to take on some of the blame for those periods, he’s not come out of it with clean hands given some of the bizarre team selections If we have an option to change him and bring someone better in then I would take it, like I would with most of the players Upto Ken to decide who is out there who can take us forward
May 15, 20188 yr just answer the question pal, which promotion did you enjoy more? comparing relegation to survival doesnt warrant an answer We're at the same point. Results > Performance. If you can achieve results alongside performance then great. But at Bolton you'll never have both consistently. The situation in 96/7 was entirely different to now. We had been a premiership side and came down with a superb group of players before adding to it with Frandsen/Johansen and being the best side in the league. It was superb. But it doesn't equate to the position last season in any way does it?
May 15, 20188 yr as an aside as the last 8 games keep coming up as a critiscm been thinking about the turnaround from Villa at home (entertaining) to Brum at home (painful) when KA was using his column to have a pop at players for not trying what caused that? my guess, and it's a guess obviously, is that contracts were offered during the international break, and none were anything like the contract that Madine got offered which was double his money for 2 years to stay in Jan so those out of contract just couldn't be arsed don't think it was Parky's fault and he didn't lose the dressing room, but the comments from KA didn't help matters either, and he struggled to fix it

Therefore, i can say with with confidence that the reason you, me, we all enjoyed 97 more was how we did it? the way we played, the attacking nature of the side, the approach to games, goals scored etc etc... Yes, you could argue the reason we could do that was due to the players we had. no problem with that. However the quality of football is all relative to the level you're playing at. Hence the reason we romped the championship then got relegated the season after. Am i expecting us to play the type of football City play with they players we had in league 1? Am i bollocks. Nor am i expecting that when we are struggling in the championship. But, for people to say what we do now is the only way we can play, and you have to sacrifice style to get results is absolutely nonsense. you can play a decent style of football relative to the rest of league 1 if that's where you are, Championship, anywhere without breaking the bank to do so. it all comes down to how the gaffer wants you to play... he has stuck to the same type of football that had success in league 1 and we very nearly suffered in the higher league, much like the team from 97 did in the Prem. you need to adapt and improve and we havent Edited May 15, 20188 yr by barrycowdrill

The best years in modern memory were under Allardyce, a manager who definitely was not going to forsake results for tippy tappy football. I enjoyed those times more than anything else. Results come first. And context of results cannot be ignored. Staying up this season was monumental for the club. And with the players we had a huge achievement. If we get to a more stable point and financially can sign better players and the results don't evolve and neither do the performances then that is the time for me to question. But results are priority for me, always.
May 15, 20188 yr Entertaining football is not all about the Pep way, as long as we put a decent shift in for 90 minutes then I will be entertained, the majority of last season we didn't see that and for me that's down to the manager, getting the keeper to lump it forward at every opportunity is not playing football, sometimes its necessary and I get that but not for 90 fucking minutes and again that's down to the manager, Parky needs a plan B & C which he doesn't seem to have. Football is moving on and it's leaving the old school managers behind and we currently have 1 of those types running the first team

Its oversimplified that. Cardiff have just gone up. They weren't trying to entertain. Just win games. I'd be over the moon with mid table next season. If we achieve that, I really do not care how.

If we achieve that, I really do not care how. well it really is a simple game. Yes cardiff did go up. Without blowing anyone away which shows what can be achieved without going to the extreme style of football you think im pleading for as would I but sadly with our current Plan A and no Plan B or C i dont see it
May 15, 20188 yr Ive watched that goal about 851 times and was pretty sure it was Henry with the flick on.. :-) Put your fishing rod away... Not even going there... Loving the precision of 851 views though.

And imagine if we were now lumbered with paying Madine double money for the next two years. Makes it an even more brilliant piece of business.
