Just a bit pissed off now with this season, had a great crack last time we went down though with visiting towns I had not been for a while.

My favourite Mansfield memory is the 78 promotion game, thousands going mental when Ritson scored....if I could just go back & do one season that would be the one.

My fave at Mansfield was in 76 when they played Palace, trying to complete the 92 grounds. Copped a local wench on the terraces, invited back to Kirkby with her for a few drinks in this backwater mining village, then back her house for some fun, because her parents had gone out. I waited for a bus back to Alfreton, it never come so ended up walking back to the station. It was shut. Clocked this pub called the Railway Hotel so i thought I will give this a try for a nights kip. Banged on the door for ages and this angry bloke opened the door and took a swing at me, I made a steady retreat up the road with him behind me shouting all sort's of swear words at me. He finally gave up so I ended up sleeping in a phone box that night. Bussed it back to Sheffield the following day, and then train back to Manc.

One of the things I always notice when I stick that 92/93 DVD in is how barmy the away ends go whenever we scored, Preston, Mansfield, Hull of course, Wigan, Chester...

iirc we'd dicked Sheff U away 5-1 in the January that year (on my 14th birthday)

My dad was a bit giddy and taking me everywhere away that season. As a 14 year old Sheff Utd's ground was summat else with that massive cantilever stand - compared to Burnden it was space-age. Then we went to Mansfield.......Somebody older than me on here might have a better memory but all I can recall is an absolute and utter shit-tip that was Bolton everywhere, in every stand, paddock, floodlight, etc....we took the place over

Remember the goal and every part of the ground going mental but didn't remember it as Ritson. As per usual my Dad had got us seats in their main stand and was doing his nut at me as I was jumping around when we scored

Wasn't that the one where Bill Maynard/Greengrass was in the stands? The away followings that season were immense culminating in an absolute takeover of Ewood Park.

What memories. A screamer for Peter Nicko in that 5-1 thrashing handed out to the blunts.

I was on the open end at Mansfield and have clear memories of the Bolton crowd spotting Maynard in the seats and singing for him to give us a wave - which he duly did to a great roar. He was at every game Frankie played for us I believe? Must have wondered WTF was going on at Blackburn!

It was quite clean and didn't stink of piss, telephone directories are shite for using as a pillow though.

That was a fabulous game . 6 months later I moved to Nottingham and always had a soft spot for the Stags.

I remember all the wanderers fans winding there way home via the road to chesterfield and all the locals in  Pleasley sat outside  outside the front doors of their terraced houses watching us . Quite surreal. 

Mansfield versus chesterfield , now that's a rivalry . No love lost between those two. In fact any Notts versus Derbyshire game is edgy . 

I remember going to chesterfield after qualifying for the sherpa van trophy and their fans chucking lumps of concrete across the paddock barriers . I've seen the clip on you tube on here... 

Anyway happy day at field mill when we won that day
