No fucker hits that.

It's a lesson to our opening bowlers though- they got the ball doing stuff but off to short a length, so not threatening the stumps.

As for the chase, we scored far more against Pakistan: fewer needed this time to win.

Its a great ball. Still I think better players have half a chance. Personally think 285 will look a very big score by the end of today. England need to see this spell through then they need to score. No point trying to pace this innings because their quicks are tough to score off in the last ten.

Vince should be nowhere near this side IMO.

Christ it's not over yet.

A lot to do but FFS there's still plenty of chance.

I can't see it - something has gone wrong with the mentality. To turn it round from here will be a miracle. They might scrape the semis - but even then can you see them beating what looks a very polished Aussie outfit or the only team to have beaten them India? Its hard to see - prior to yesterday we've beaten the Aussies 12 out of 14 ODIs. We don't seem to have the right mentality for tournament cricket. Our scoring rate in and out of tournament cricket (in the last 4 years) is interesting. Over 6 close to 7 an over outside of tournaments. At the 2017 ICC champions trophy we were down to 5 and in this world cup not much more. That's a huge difference. Is it that we struggle on slower, ICC managed wickets? Or is it a mental block.

Probably a bit of both.

Anyone else scratch their head over the locations for these England games.

The old enemy come to play, a grudge match given their ball tampering antics.

Where is it played- the ground with the most meek, mild mannered fans and champagne supping supporters, where the Aussies have a good record.

And where is the India game to be played- Birmingham, where it's likely to be more like a home match for the opposition.

Surely India should have been at lord's and Australia at Birmingham with a really loud, antagonistic crowd against them.

Bonkers.

Reckon it’s least of our worries at the moment. Really can’t see us knocking over India and New Zealand now. Is Roy back? Not heard owt

Well it's too late now!

There was barely a boo when Smith came out!

Not sure we'll turn over India, but I fancy us against NZ.

Doubt about Roy- not heard anything

We don't get to choose our venues. And we'd not want to play India on a slow Edgbaston pitch either. Probably want them up here at OT if we had a choice.

Kinell, there's a reason lancs produce and use so many spinners!

The pitches are what they are; teams need to be able to play on whatever they are given.

If you say the ICC don't allow England to pick the venues then fair enough, but the crowd noise can make a huge difference.

Pakistan must expect to beat Afghanistan tomorrow. That will take them above England into fourth, followed by a twitter and media meltdown. Their final match is against Bangladesh (WP v EP).

Realistically you have to expect England need two wins in all likelihood now. Pakistan will win both their matches - though they are wildly inconsistent they have a habit of coming good at the right time.

England are going to have to play very well against India but the NZ match up at Durham could be a "whoever wins the toss" type of thing. However, I feel New Zealand have similar weaknesses to us in this tournament. Batting is a bit shaky and they're reliant on Williamson plus some erratic middle order types. I feel man for man we're better than NZ. But then again we are better than Pakistan and Sri Lanka but didn't show it on the day.

Whilst Root is dependable and relatively solid at number 3, he seems to slow the scoring rate down, especially today.

When we were motoring, someone else should have been moved up the order and keep the momentum going.

At one stage we looked like smashing 400, be lucky to get 300 now.

Don't mind root, but once Roy went Bairstow slowed a bit.

Doing well with the ball, but wish we could bowl some quality Yorkers like Starc.
