Why are there variants, how do they happen, just a simple explanation at these briefings would suffice, people might take more notice and take the whole thing seriously.

I don't think so personally, read the article and then try and and put that into a briefing where you need to communicate basic facts.

Itd get convulted very quickly. If you want to know more there is quite a bit of info put out by official sources as well.

One of the scientists i heard on the radio explained it simply for us simpletons

It involved photocopiers

:)

Erm, yes

Its either serious or its not

But go on, you were probably odds on to come up with a far fetched justification. :)

We currently have essentially the same restrictions on Brazil (or others) as France for example has on us. Basically tests within 72 hours before travel.

If its felt a travel ban is necessary, no doubt it will be done.

Without checking, have the rest of the world banned flights from Brazil?

Frankly, you're desperate for an angle.

Whitty et al have done on occasions. Wouldn't expect too much at them though, as folk would lose interest.

# Thumbs up

To be honest, you're not a tory spin machine, so I too apologise

We've potentially got another variant in Brazil and we are still letting flights in

Its reckless

ROW?

No idea

I thought we shouldn't compare with the rest of the world?

Stop flights, find out, then decide what to do

I would agree that new variant close it down. It’s what places did to us and rightly so. Did we not ban flights from South Africa or did I imagine that?

I thought we did

Like the comments say, its the lack or urgency

We might be on the verge of getting out of this shit storm and now is not the time to take chances

So photocopy your arse, scan it and send it to all your work colleagues 👍🏻

Something like the virus multiplies itself and in doing so, sometimes doesn't copy all the information over

I think it may have something to do with it knowing it needs to adapt

Maybe, but just a simple explanation for the fuck nuts like me who lack scientific brain cells 🤯

Yeah, the photocopier thing was clear but I turned off as it went on for over 20 seconds. ;)

All viruses are the same aren’t they? It’s the nature of the beast but corona viruses are much more infectious and mutate as a matter of course. It’s why we can’t vaccinate against the common cold?

When aids started it was just aids. Over time it changed to bad aids. It’s just like that pal

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. We should be taking our own decisions, not just following others.

If this Brazilian version is different to any variants we already have in the country, then all flights from there should be banned with immediate effect, whilst we study it and decide on the potential impact to the UK.

I'm not sure how anybody can defend us not banning flights from Brazil at the minute. We'll probably do it in a few days time, by which time it'll already be here

How do we know who has bad aids ?

Apart from Tom Hanks of course

That’s where medical passports or branding would come in handy.

but that wasn’t what you were asking. You were asking about mutating viruses and bad aids is a perfect example of such a thing

so boris, there's a variant in Brazil we have known about for 4 days

What are we doing to stop it getting into the UK?

Wiff waff wiff waff nothing yet

What I don’t understand is they pulled Dubai immediately but not Brazil, just some consistency would help.

Inject them with something else, like watered down porridge.

The Oxford vaccine is derived from monkey spunk - just give injections of the 'raw' source instead.

Even though the above is for 'humour' and has a grain of truth in it - I'm unsure about posting, it will probably turn up as 100% fact on some anti-vax m0ngs' Twatface feed tomorrow...

Perhaps our superior gene sequencing ability gives us the edge?

It may be that it is prudent to close borders, but until it becomes obvious its necessary, then current measures are should suffice.

You need to make your mind up: close as much as possible, cocoon the population and accept economic consequences or accept a bit of risk in the interests of protecting some jobs. You cant have both.

You do know that krankie usually gives her lockdown advice a couple of hours after sitting in on a cobr briefing where she is told what restrictions etc are going to be placed in england?
So in essence she is just playing to the crowd in that respect and because she does her briefings at lunchtime she simply gets it in first?

To be honest I think that's a sensible thing to do. Seen as they're in an enclosed environment. I sure as shit wouldn't want a couple of hundred prisoners all with COVID requiring hospital treatment.

They're isolating most of the time!

Point taken about the treatment scenario, but, that witch that murderered little Emily- not sure that would wash morally.

I've no doubt it will be, but I'm sure SAGE would be on the ball 🙄

Personally all flights should be banned.

If the world had done that last December, who knows.

Its a valid proposal, but we have to accept the consequences if we go down that route.

The likes of Traff will be properly fucked.

Sounds like Mr Grey needs a CBBC Newsround-level bulletin, otherwise it's too difficult to comprehend, thus it must be lies.
