And if you dont want to go, stay at home

I think that's the aim all over. I'm booked in for late June; doubtful at the moment I reckon, but perhaps late summer.

Guessing though.

Just told the missus to book us in to place we stayed in plockton for a long weekend in July or August.

going to book a couple of other weekend stays elsewhere on a refundable basis. Might as well start to prepare.

Suspect I will be inundated with visitor requests if we can’t all go abroad.

I think they'll be open towards the end of April, it'll be "rule of 6" stuff again for a while though, and still table service and wearing masks and one way systems malarkey as well for a few months longer I'd have thought

You're on about opening up completely!!

Our current figures are during a lockdown.

You're undermining your own argument because its based around lockdown success.

All that goes out of the window once back to an open society; and bare in mind that much of the transmission now is work based- ramp that up massively once the pubs are open and more are back in work.

Then remember the huge concern over variants: as was intimated at the briefing, high cases means more variants. We only need a nasty one to bugger up vaccine programme.

My scenario is based around what we've seen recently and factual information from official data; there's no uncertainty that cases will rocket under your proposal.

Getting those estimates from modelling and balancing the risks is the duty of medical and government officials- there's not a chance in hell of everything going back to normal in a couple of months or so.

I’m not saying complete unlock, but the time table and easing of restrictions should begin soon, certainly some by the end of March, and gently easing through April, I totally understand if government thinks Easter is early for pubs, restaurants and shops to open but I’d be disappointed if it didn’t happen soon after still with restrictions on social distancing and with limited numbers and table service.

Up here they are saying if we can get it under control we will be able to holiday in the uk. That’s the golden ticket we are being sold as the dream for this year

these type of decisions/ directives by governments get right up my nose, who’s to say me holidaying in Edingburgh, London or Cornwall is safer than over seas?  It’s control for control sake, can’t believe folk buy into it.

This sounds good and I would really hope is possible. Anything we are allowed to do will feel amazing. I’m going to be easily pleased for a while to come!

Buy into it? Who’s buying into it? If it transpires I’m not allowed to leave the Uk without paying thousands of pounds in quarantine charges either end then that’s ultimately what it is. Not sure that means I’m buying into anything really.

Mounts has a place abroad which I think drives much of his thinking on this

That's fair enough; but it's seemingly not the view of the lockdown sceptic group.

They seem to be saying drop everything.

Don’t mean you buying it, just folk in general and acceptance of the situation and the government interference in our life’s drives me mad.

Steve baker who’s deputy chair of the group said by the end of April then it’s difficult to justify further lockdown, certainly they’re not advocating dropping everything immediately. I agree with him.

I think the thing most people have accepted is we are living amidst a pandemic that has killed over 100k people in the uk. Without intervention that number would have been likely exponentially greater. It’s been horrendous. There has been some positives for me personally that have come out of it but in the main it’s been awful and I’ve lost a year of my life is how I feel and I want it to end.

but I don’t want it to end to go back in lockdown again in 3 months time as that will finish me off. I want to go abroad and want to see my mum when I want and want to go down the pub with my mates etc asap but I feel the end is in sight and I’m prepared to stick with it for a bit longer for long term gain ,which is my life going back to hopefully how it was

Government interference isn't a choice, but a necessity.

If we want to be protected as much as possible, have hospitals open and treatment available, have vaccines/testing etc then all require some sort of Government intervention.

The rub is, the more that follow it, the quicker it ends.

That's a bit different to how it's being presented.

I dont think the lockdown we're in will be around in its current guise then anyhow.

Reckon schools will be back next month for a start.

I’m prepared to wait a sensible amount of time, we’re vaccinating 3 million a week so that’s about 40 million vaccinated by Easter at least once, infection rates are also shrinking rapidly, if we continue lockdown to the end of April then the virus should of all but disappeared, by august it’ll another 24 million vaccinations. Unless your destination is on the red list I just don’t buy into these type of government control.

Can we not just send em on cruises so us young ens can have a pint without the owd folk giving it the lemon with their double jabbed passports.

Problem with this red list nonsense is that whilst they might not be on the red list what is that country doing to stop people coming in from all over the place if that makes sense.

I want to go abroad this year and hopefully I will. But I really don’t want to find myself locked down again next Xmas and be truly fucking miserable pal which is what I fear

I’ve said it before but risk is part of life, it’s hard to justify lockdown after April, how do you justify further restrictions damaging the economy while the risk of death is ridiculously low.

It’s all about getting to your pad in the EU really isn’t it....?

Foreign travel is at the discretion of the individual country's government, so not much we can do about that, other than get jabbed.

Hopefully, figures will also show dramatically reduced transmission from jabbed folk which will help convince them.

I'm not sure what you mean about further restrictions: you said don't open everything at once, so that means some continued restrictions.

The current lockdown will be gone by end of April, but some curbs will still apply.

I’ll settle for a night out in a pub restaurant and watching BWFC to be honest.
