Perhaps that's why they're being cautious. Perhaps maintaining some level of restrictions until they're done.

As was discussed at the briefing, foreign countries may demand vaccination before travel is allowed, so that might focus a few minds.

I think it would be the best option.

Sounds OTT maybe, but I think a proof of vaccine should be mandatory (exemptions obviously not) to even get into cinemas, restaurants etc if we’re to get back to “normal” normal.

A very knowledgeable chap who I have been following on Facebook for a while posted this today.

There is genuine reasons to be optimistic now. More than 20% of the UK population has been vaccinated and they are the most vulnerable proportion. There is also likely 20% who have antibodies from natural infection. This together with lockdown has caused cases to plummet and its only mid February.

There is now evidence that the J&J/Janssens vaccine is ~85% effective in preventing serious illness and death against the South African variant. Although there isn’t enough data for this on the Oxford/AZ vaccine, they are very similar in design so should offer similar outcomes regarding this. The Pfizer vaccine has shown strong results against these variants too.

With these vaccine platforms including mRNA, they can be rapidly adapted to match new variants. These variants are expected as immunity both from natural infection and vaccinations result in viruses with unique mutations to quickly become dominant. I’ve a lot of experience in HIV analysis and it’s one of the most highly variable viruses we know of and rapidly mutates when a patient is given treatment. This is why they receive a combination of antiviral medication each designed to target different aspects of the viral life cycle. This is all managed in the absence of a vaccine. Covid doesn’t mutate anywhere near as rapidly as HIV, is much easier to analyse and multiple vaccines already available.

I personally can see pubs and restaurants reopening in about 6 weeks but with precautions. Hospitals need to have a significant reduction in covid patients but evidence of this is already beginning to happen. By summer I expect people will be able to go on holiday again as things continue to improve.

There is no reason not to expect nightclubs to reopen by middle of summer and a genuine sense of normality to return. Something I know a lot of my friends in the nightlife industry have had such little hope for. No one has a crystal ball but I can’t see this going in any other direction than a positive one now.

fingers crossed he’s right

Finger crossed indeed - I'd feel happier if you were following him on the Lancet.

Why do drug makers name their drugs this way?

Elitist

The ‘mab’ bit is easy. Monoclonal AntiBody

The rest is nerds in white coats sat in labs with cans of Stella and a bag of Scrabble tiles

Makes total sense.

If you don't want the vaccine, no problem.

But those who have it gain freedom.

Social scoring then.

Like the tinfoilers said back in March.

These backbench bellends...

Giving the nod to common and garden wankers to do what they want.

Attention seeking cunts.

More concerned about their portfolios taking a bashing than some plebs dying.

Perhaps they are correct and you’re  talking out of your arse.

I don’t think anyone accused people saying there’d be vaccine “passports” of being tinfoilers.

It makes sense.

The tinfoilers think it’s about population control and infringement of freedoms.

Well dead fucking right. Have the vaccine and don’t be a cunt would be my response.

If you want to live in a society like ours, there are always going to be certain responsibilities you adhere to in order to reap the benefits of that society. Some legal, some moral.

This is one of those responsibilities.

But, you are free to decline one. Equally, the majority of society are then free to tell you to stay the fuck out of their restaurants and off their planes.

No freedoms are being removed.

They're backbenchers for a reason.

Namely they're fucking no-marks.

Know-fuck alls.

Well, apart from their investments are taking a tumble - they're keenly aware of that.

Just twats who can't tow the party line.

That said, perhaps I'm being harsh - there's plenty regular twats who think they know better than fucking experts.

I never talk out of my arse unless I mean to talk out of my arse.

Arseholes discussing erosion of freedom (although they probably use the term 'ug, ug, errrr, Soros, err, Gates erm 5G!') mainly using twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc.

It'd be quite funny if it wasn't so indicative of a massive crisis in regard to critical thinking in our 'modern' world.

Fuck the party line, they have a very valid point and are correct to call this as they see it, once over 50s vaccinated no reason not to open up the economy, this has gone on more than long enough.

All going to be over by end of April all this.

Mark my words.

Bang on.

Well if we have to go back in lockdown I'm blaming Mounts for being a selfish cunt

Sound fair?

Does it not go against your general libertarian outlook though BD?

I am not trying to be a dick about it, it's just a thought that popped into my head.

I suppose the simple question is this:

Has anyone of the 15million that've had the jab caught the virus since?

If not, we can be looking at late May for putting this to bed.

The actual day that the pubs reopen will be horrendous. All the cunts will be out

If some cunt said I couldn't go on holiday or more worryingly go for a pint without having a jab I'd call you mental. Its now on the horizon.

We didn't and still don't have any restrictions for people with or without flu jabs. You could still travel the world freely with ebola if you didn't die mid flight.

I'm not a tinfoiler but I am looking at this now and thinking maybe they were on to something.

The second Tony Blair starts calling it a good idea I start to second guess it! 🤣

Do you know specifically about their investments?

After all, they could have slipped a few quid into Miami's suggested companies and made plenty through lateral flow testing.

If you listen to their claims, they're very libertarian and aimed at giving people their lives and livings back; which in principle is fine and welcome.

However, for me, it's ignoring the evidence from recent months: the best way back to normality is to be cautious now, and reap the benefits a little later on. To soon and businesses will be open and closed again.

Backbenchers are vital to parliamentary activity too; things could be very, very different without them (away from the pandemic).

If you want to go to the Far East, you need injections.

I just don’t see the issue with having a jab, protecting everyone and ensuring you can do what you want.

If the jab wasn’t free, or was full of Bill Gates cum, or turned you into a goblin I’d understand the reticence, but it’s a freebie that gets this fucking monkey off our backs for good.

I won’t change my opinion that it’s not a removal of freedom. It’s a voluntary cutting off of nose to prove a point no one else gives a fuck about.

You need yellow fever vaccination to enter certain countries

This, really, is no different. Beats fucking around with getting negative COVID tests before travelling

Edited by jmjhb

I was under the impression that you can travel without medication though. It's wise you have it but you don't have to prove you've had it.

Dunno. Seems like an erosion of liberties just for me to go and eat gammon and eggs on the Costa whilst reading the mirror
