That was one of the loveliest things to ever happen. Stood in my garden sobbing like a baby! Proud to work for the NHS 👏👏👏👏❤️

We'll be back in the top 10 next week

Late push for the play offs.

Sorry, what was the point you were making? Might have missed something.

Sounding very much like all schools open on March 8 but everything else staying the same for a few weeks whilst they assess the impact of that change. Seems very sensible.

Some epidemiologist this morning suggested that the kids need to go back, and then you basically wait for 3 weeks to see if the infections start to rise again - if they don't, then you can start to ease stuff

I reckon in beer gardens by May, and then "rule of six" inside pubs from June - social distancing and masks etc in place for the rest of the calendar year

These backbench bellends...

Giving the nod to common and garden wankers to do what they want.

Attention seeking cunts.

More concerned about their portfolios taking a bashing than some plebs dying.

Lowest number of daily cases since September

MOAR GOOD NEWS

However, this raises an issue I haven't thought of before - the logistics of getting the second dose to priority groups and also the first dose to the rest of the general population in early summer are going to be insane

Ffs what hope is there if the Mayor Of Blackburn can’t follow the simple rules. Dick.

Ideology ruling common sense for me. Don't get their thinking.

Reading the report, he sounds like the character from Little Britain - the m.p who gets caught doing things he shouldn't.

I was delivering food and unbeknown to me, additional family member turned up once the food had arrived etc etc. What a load of bollocks.

And that’s when my trousers fell down and I tripped backwards onto the plunger 🪠

A very knowledgeable chap who I have been following on Facebook for a while posted this today.

There is genuine reasons to be optimistic now. More than 20% of the UK population has been vaccinated and they are the most vulnerable proportion. There is also likely 20% who have antibodies from natural infection. This together with lockdown has caused cases to plummet and its only mid February.

There is now evidence that the J&J/Janssens vaccine is ~85% effective in preventing serious illness and death against the South African variant. Although there isn’t enough data for this on the Oxford/AZ vaccine, they are very similar in design so should offer similar outcomes regarding this. The Pfizer vaccine has shown strong results against these variants too.

With these vaccine platforms including mRNA, they can be rapidly adapted to match new variants. These variants are expected as immunity both from natural infection and vaccinations result in viruses with unique mutations to quickly become dominant. I’ve a lot of experience in HIV analysis and it’s one of the most highly variable viruses we know of and rapidly mutates when a patient is given treatment. This is why they receive a combination of antiviral medication each designed to target different aspects of the viral life cycle. This is all managed in the absence of a vaccine. Covid doesn’t mutate anywhere near as rapidly as HIV, is much easier to analyse and multiple vaccines already available.

I personally can see pubs and restaurants reopening in about 6 weeks but with precautions. Hospitals need to have a significant reduction in covid patients but evidence of this is already beginning to happen. By summer I expect people will be able to go on holiday again as things continue to improve.

There is no reason not to expect nightclubs to reopen by middle of summer and a genuine sense of normality to return. Something I know a lot of my friends in the nightlife industry have had such little hope for. No one has a crystal ball but I can’t see this going in any other direction than a positive one now.

fingers crossed he’s right

Makes perfect sense

How many folk are in hospital with covid? Surely this is starting to drop quite nicely now and hopefully will do as the old folk build their immunity level

Ayefuckinglutely. What a complete twat.

Why didn't he demand Friday's lottery numbers while he was at it.

Best question came from the member of the public with the request for a mental health bod to attend.

The question about future vaccination programmes was relevant too, good to hear confidence amongst the medical bods.

Thought the best explanation was on the second round of vaccines being supported by local pharmacists so GPs etc can concentrate of the firsts doses for those with known medical issues.
when the briefings first started I got the feeling the scientists were worried things might be worse than we thought with the odd mention of the future being very uncertain. I got the opposite feeling now in that they are confident that the vaccine will reduce transmission but can not say that till proven and that evolving the vaccine is almost business as usual.

I think one of the biggest problems might be getting people in their 20’s and 30’s vaccined once the other groups are done and the lockdown has all but gone.

Its human nature to just revert to normal and getting a vaccine won’t be high on a lot of lists compared with holidays, pub, cinema etc etc...

I honestly think it will become a real twattish problem.

Perhaps that's why they're being cautious. Perhaps maintaining some level of restrictions until they're done.

As was discussed at the briefing, foreign countries may demand vaccination before travel is allowed, so that might focus a few minds.
