Ah yes - forgot about that. What's wrong with my profile? I am gayly frolicing astride a piece of art from a gallery in Edinburgh with a fucking huge hangover. That and a load of podcasts from work....

Would you recommend anywhere decent to stay for a few nights in and around Plymouth?

Sister has her boat moored down there this summer and planning to spend some time pretending I know about jib sails and tacking.

I know it's likely to be manic busy, but you may have some local knowledge...

You'll be lucky to find much accommodation left in tourists traps. There are lots of B&Bs around the Hoe in walking distance of Barbican if she in Sutton Harbour or Queen Anne and you want to be able to meet up in evenings. If you are looking to be a bit further out look a little inland to Yealmpton or Modbury as the true yachty spots could be 5k per week to rent anything near Salcombe or Dartmouth

We can stay on the boat, but was hoping to maybe spend a few days around Devon/Cornwall. The boat is moored in Mayflower marina (I think).

Will look at your suggestions just in case.

Beg to differ.

I didn't mean blokes in sowesters and daft hats beachcasting with 39ft rods and massive bait buckets of lungworm etc.

I meant unassuming folk in normal clothes casting a speculative line off a prom or seawall with a bit of bread as bait - as one sees in Stockholm, Split or San Sebastian etc.

There's loads of burgeoning Captain Birdseyes here who only turn out in shite weather like they're some type of a Hemingway-esque figure.

Loads down at Ramsgate, Folkestone, Deal.. all times of year. Ramsgate's seawall has loads all the time when the tide is in.

Who's Beth Rigby?

Is she another of the 'ooh, we are SO right-wing' club's bêtes-noires like Steve Brie and Lesley Judd that normal people haven't the foggiest about?

Journalist, so left wing works for sky. Cambridge graduate, dunno what the massive issue is.

Oh and the Times and the FT.

Clearly about to join sea shepherd

Mayflower marina is other side of town from Barbican.  Royal William Yard has some chain and couple of decent independent restaurants.  The Artillery Tower at Devil's Point one of the best in city but you'll need to book way in advance.

Cremyl foot ferry over to Mt Edgecombe worth a trip. Decent pub food over there or if you're in the boat short trip within main bay to Cawsand and Kingsand.

Expect your sister will have planned longer trips but want advice give me idea of size of boat so can work out more off track places can go, but cant go wrong with being able to sail to Noss Mayo, Burgh Island,  Hope Cove , Salcombe and Dartmouth going east and Looe, Fowey (Polperro if got a tender) and Charlestown going west.

Get lot of locals using light tackle around Plymouth and a lot of the Eastern European community get involved

The shopping centre resembles eastern Europe I'll grant you having been worst affected in country by the blitz but Barbican and the Hoe take some beating in the summer.

I thought you were required to put an exclamation mark after Hoe!

I once read its the only place name in UK with an exclamation.

Cheers.

Shes got a Beneteau 55.

they're planning to spend around 8 weeks down there this summer and said we should go down. They’d been moored in Wales last year but got pissed off with the restrictions.
