I thought she spoke well. The key point is that there's also risk in not re-opening. At some point there would be more damage done to more lives by not reopening. We can argue as to where that point lies, but her logic is sound.

I think there's one other factor which may or may no be in their thinking. If there's a second peak in winter coinciding with flu season then I think there's  a chance we'll be in another lockdown maybe even a more severe one.  So getting kids out and socialised now and for some of the autumn may be crucial in minimising the long term damage.

The Government want the disease spreading, now that they can handle it.. It's unfair to try and shy away from that in any other guise, and awful to tell teachers they should not be wearing PPE..

Love to find out which school her kids go to and if it’s opening.

By the way, she’s the arsehole who made money out of a food bank app

That's what I don't get, in fairness. If it increases confidence, so be it.

Ok sound may be a bit muffled, and expressions obscured a bit, but kids will get used to it, and it might help more adults feel comfortable wearing masks when out and about.

Visors are ten a penny

If the unions said we want visors for all the teachers, I'd have more sympathy

As it is, there's seemingly few attempts being made to find a way forward

Ps, the other day, you said you were doing a glass of 30?

Somebody asked why that couldn't have been 3 classes of 10, I think

Did you see it/answer?

I also don't see a problem with teachers wearing masks or suitable coverings- it might make more feel confident.

A middle ground here surely- rather than the unions adopt an antagonistic approach, why not agree a sensible, cautious approach which enables schools to look at their specific situation and act accordingly.

The guidance is that face coverings are a no go as they can worry children, and a lot of teaching is done via facial expression and clear communication, of which can't happen with a facemask. Currently it's a non-uniform policy and that alone is causing issues, masks would further move it away from the routines which kids rely on.

A middle ground has been sought and refused. The union leads had a meeting with the government where they asked to see the science behind the move, and also behind the recommendations, alongside what backing was available. The government refused to reveal the scientific backing, which led to the BMA siding with the Unions.

I knew there would be a class of 30 ish, I wasn't sure of the kids until I went into work that day.

The kids were split 1:2 radio, with the larger portion having a double classroom, the others having a normal sized classroom.

The day is split between the teachers to minimise contact, usually with hours of teaching for each teacher. So i had 2.5 hours of teaching and then covered break and dinner.

I wouldn’t be in one.

I think they’d be busy enough though.

I'd be nowhere near one.

Let all the crash test dummies out first 😊

There's a lot of awful things about this.

I don't know the government want it spreading as much as it's going to spread regardless of what the government wants.

I've not seen that story. Spent the last couple of years trying to avoid Brexit talk by focusing on Wanderers then avoiding Wanderers talk by focusing on I don't know what.

Ignorance is bliss.

Cheers for the answer, though it doesn't make a great deal of sense to me:)

Bet these teachers that are reluctant to go back don’t give two fucks about the staff when they’re buying their bottles of wine in Asda this evening.

They can stack shelves from behind Perspex screens??. Bravo for whoever invented that. Although you will be upset if they are making money from it I assume?

There’s no Perspex screens in any supermarket round me bar bargain booze.

Not that they serve any purpose in a supermarket full of people, goods, money and folk stacking shelves anyway.

Pretty sure most of the stacking goes on when shops are shut.

Making money from selling food? Why would I object to that? Don’t be silly

Making money from food banks whilst an MP for a party who’s policies caused an explosion in food banks? Too fucking right I object.

Really? Even Aldi round my way has Perspex screens.

You see the one about the head of Scottish British transport police?  Travelling 230 miles from here to Yorkshire to go “home” and then back up. Not feasible to do his job from just one location apparently. So had to do it from his hose in Yorkshire some of the time. I smell bullshit

I see people out stacking shelves every single time I’m in the supermarket. People handing out trolleys baskets hand sanitizer too.

and she made money out of an app. What is the world coming to when people develo apps and make money from them. Who fucking knew.

and there we are. It’s because she’s a nasty tory 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

I notice a lack of outrage from you about just giving creaming off hundreds of thousands off captain Moore’s fundraising? What if I told you tory policiticians held shares in the company. Would you soil yourself in outrage?? I suspect so
