Good day Chaps.

Can they be too big ?

They can, but those aren't.

With the right infrastructure we could get most the kids back in school or in childcare schemes over the summer. Class sizes of 30/33 have always been bonkers and virtually impossible to give every kid what they need from a teacher . SNP promised us 20 per class up here a long time ago but that's never been fulfilled. Same issue down south and London class sizes are ridiculous.

If we can build a hospital in no time then why not more temporary schools before June? Get teachers from the last year of their degree in employment and get more Teach First and School Direct placements in. 10-20 per class. Ambitious I know but it's doable and with no vaccine in sight it's something we should be aiming for. Cheaper than paying furlough surely?

I don't agree with the unions on this on but the plan from the govn. has lacked clarity. They haven't offered much practicality in terms of safety. Despite the generalisations, majority of teachers want to get back in, they just want it to be safe and with much smaller class sizes. Many of them, myself included, will also have elderly parents that they want to be able to see at some point without endagering.

. Maybe that death in public service benefit needs to be extended to other professions, at least for a period?

It does.. but i doubt it includes corona virus.

You need to be signed up to the teachers pension scheme.

Yeah, in the midst of a global pandemic, there are more than enough hurdles to navigate without treating the six weeks holidays as sacrosanct. If moving/shortening it saves rushing back to cram in lessons before an arbitrary date, then it's a no brainer.

It'd be harder to defend teachers (or unions) that don't want to go back now, but also wouldn't be prepared to try and make up some time later on. Accepting that they do also need some time off before the start of the next school year.

3 weeks break in summer would be plenty given the fact everyone is away from work as it is, and travel is unlikely for most.

People are happy to applaud, say they’re doing their bit etc etc but you watch that shit crumble at the suggestion of 7 weeks holidays being shortened.

All in it together my arse.

Drop it to 4 weeks. Give them an extra week at Xmas & Easter.

General question for folk, and I understand that we don't all run the places we work at so it's purely speculation and opinion.

If you are furloughed or people at your work are furloughed what would it take to get most if not all of them back in and working as safely as in other workplaces?

The school thing is a bit of a red herring which will be affecting some and maybe even lots but it's not keeping everyone at home.

I'll go first and say that if we put a few things in place where I work then almost everyone could be back in within a day, if you want to be generous say a week. We won't be though and even if I don't know the exact date I could hazard a guess at the circumstances that would have us back in.

Send em back 3rd week July, scrap the 6 weeks hols, straight through to October.

Give them the 6 weeks hols June 1st - Mid July.

If its about safety, surely no-one can complain

Is that really new?

Anyway, to my shame, i fucked the daily briefings off weeks back

Same old backslapping and truth twisting got on my wick

Anyway, had LBC on and somebody said a direct question was asked as to why you wouldnt be asked to do the quarantine after a trip to france

No answer given

That right?

They've backtracked on that now and if any quarantine is brought in, France would now be included.

Ireland, however, still wouldn't.

It was highlighted as a possible symptom some time ago, but it was added to the list of symptoms that should neccesitate self-isolation today.

Aye you willing to give up your work holidays?

Teachers are still working at the moment, as I said before, it they want to pay overtime then yeah, go for it.. I doubt they will. Otherwise you can't just make someone work extra.

Should travel resume (which is a different discussion), then you're saying teachers can't take the holidays they've booked?

My contract says reasonable hours to get the job done

Joys of private sector working, I guess

Listened to the king of cunts Michael O'Leary earlier they made a billion pound last year, still cant pay me my £700, anyhow he reckons the 14 day quarantine will be sacked off said its unworkable and he reckons Europe will be open for Summer.

I thought we had an agreement with France?

Some folk have very strange ideas about schools.

He’s probably right

Everyone is just fucking government advice off now and doing what they like.

It’s a Velvet Revolution.

Wont be long before that cunt opens his Wetherspoons pubs and tells Boris to sue him.

The wheels have come off. Every man for himself. But with a 2m gap.

So back to the alleged cover up in Scotland

krankie has just been questioned on it.

the reason why they didn’t reveal anything or notify the local health boards of those infected - because they may have been the only person in attendance at that event from a particular region and thus it would have made them identifiable to other attendees so for Patient confidentiality they couldn’t alert anyone to it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

10/10 for bullshit and originality.

God forbid a teacher losing out on something.

I mentioned on the travel thread that the quarantine would be unenforcable.

I'm saying it might be an idea to consider two or three weeks as opposed to six. Or defer it, or start the holidays now and go back in July.

I'm not on a crusade to do over teachers. There's too much sniping at other people/professions going on at the minute, with teachers getting more than any.

That said, before this is all said and done millions of people are going to be seeing things cancelled, taking pay cuts, losing jobs and having to generally bite the bullet. Two weeks holiday and a secure, full-time job to go back to is a result. Especially if it stops people being forced back early.

If July is the time the country is re-opening, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to then immediately have kids back at home.
