I mentioned on the travel thread that the quarantine would be unenforcable.

If that’s the case I would expect employers will be telling their employees that’s it’s company policy for anyone returning from holiday to quarantine

I used to work in an office with exactly the same culture. I rarely stayed behind. Five o’clock was usually the latest I was there. I never took a lunch like most and I used to work at home when needed.

im certainly not one for folk being rooted to their desks as it’s actually counter productive. But I am all for people going the extra mile.

if the salary they are on doesn’t justify that though then overtime is absolutely appropriate but not in all cases imo

If you’re contracted to certain hours then it’s your choice if you want to come in on the money and leave on the bell. That’s fair enough, but doing that little bit extra won’t do any harm and a good boss should recognise it and repay you back through OT or time back or at the very least gratitude.

Yep, if it's recognised and/or rewarded in some way then it's up to you, fair enough. I suppose I was coming at it from the angle of the example, where he somewhat pressures them/expects it.

I’d love to have set hours, never really work a pattern it’s all over the place. I doubt I’ve worked less than 40 hours a week in 10 years with all the travelling it really does tot up but it’s recognised.
If the results are good I get rewarded. There’s no way I could get good results in 40 hours a week.

At which point said employer is paying his employee 2 weeks to sit at home, would be my expectation

Stat sick pay if they can’t work from home. It’s a decision by the employee to leave the country. We’ve had official guidance issued at work today. That should put a stop to folk taking the piss

shame for folk who’ve already got hols booked though. And you would like to think there would be some leeway but my employer is adamant

Official from govt or official from company?

Either way, without a law - and there may well be one - I see a challenge to that

Legal argument would be I'm not sick, I'm willing to work, you won't let me

Not that it affects me but it will affect plenty of the poor buggers who have been working in factories, warehouses and supermarkets for months

"The reopening of schools in 22 European countries has not led to any significant increase in coronavirus infections among children, parents or staff, a videoconference meeting of education ministers from around the EU has heard."

Probably to early to be sure of anything and there will be plenty of other factors. But important data nonetheless.

Company but suspect they have verified it somewhere as we are highly risk adverse and wouldn’t implement a policy without some sort of sound footing.

Employer wants them to work no? Prevented by government. Same as currently when businesses are closed. Be interesting to see how this one develops. To me if they can’t work because of quarantine then government should be paying? But government will argue you are being quarantined by a conscious decision  to leave the UK on holiday.

can see all sides of it employer employer and government.

I was right onto my boss about my December holiday and confirmed as it stands I wfh on full pay same as now. Means I finish work 4th dec and am on holiday/wfh til 5th Jan. Lovely.

Otherwise I would have a serious decision to make.
