Yes, you’ve missed the Govt and their scientific and medical experts outlining the strategy.

I seem to remember the WHO having the UK as the 2nd most prepared across the world for an epidemic (or similar)

I see that Borisout is trending on twitter. He's either gonna be a hero for listening to good sound advice or the man who caused hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths.

The contrasting headlines in Irish Mail with Varadkar saying "together we can save lives" vs Boris saying "many people will lose loved ones" on UK Daily mail will be poignant for years to come possibly.

I think we're doing the right thing although have to say listening to PH experts round the world shaking their heads and saying "look at Hong Kong and how well they've done" is starting to make me wonder here.

If you want an idea of how bleak this all makes things look, go and open the Football section on your betting app.

It's Orwellian.

Bookies will be fucked for a few weeks

My mate text me before, says he's just been shopping at Asda in birchwood nr Warrington, they've sold out of bog roll, tinned tomatoes, eggs and pasta.

Am I within my rights to tell Sky to reduce my pricing for their channels now that they aren't showing any sport?

You say that but we've only just hit ability to do 2000 tests a day - as we abandon widescale testing anyway - yet South Korea right from start were testing 10,000 a day and have a tight handle on it so far. Singapore and Japan doing similar. I rate our experts but the evidence on ground sadly does not show a state of preparedness from government early enough. Perhaps we were as prepared as can effectively make a difference - I can accept that but as I say above time will be judge of that.

I agree with you in this matter by and large.

it wasn’t me saying that we were the second best prepared, though

Ask for another group of channels instead

I think they meant general healthcare systems and support - and we know that we're very good but not sure WHO take into account current pressures on NHS.

Regardless we're in a time will tell phase. The criticism of the government has been nonsensical till this morning when I heard a number of experts in public health say its a very poor response and the wrong thing. I think its a clash of science though - epidemiology vs behavioral science.

Our experts spoke brilliantly yesterday (whereas I personally thought Boris was tonally awful and blustered around a bit) but the headlines are stark now. Its a gamble as a few have said and not sure I'd be taking a gamble in this position.

More than 100,000 people in the US state of Ohio are likely to have the coronavirus, its health department director has said.

Speaking at a news conference with Governor Mike DeWine, Amy Acton confirmed there was community spread of the virus in the state.

I’m guessing they thought we were second best prepared until our solution to the crisis was to go and binge watch Netflix.

Bet they’ve moved us down a notch or two.

It’s a gamble either way

Our experts were brilliant and, personally, at the moment, they have my confidence.

My worry is, as I said last night, they are flying in the face of what every other country seems to be doing, including those where they seem to have turned the tide.

To be honest, it seems a very British response. Just let shit happen and deal with the aftermath.

No, I caught that bit. You said they were doing something "bold". What's that then?

We're gambling with lives - over doing extreme stuff in hope it protects life.

Not following what other countries are doing

and the very next day, those who were waiting for the government to tell them what to do, e.g. the PL and EFL, have now ignored them and done their own thing

I'm currently on hold to Avanti West Coast and have been for 45 minutes, as I try to cancel train tickets and get a refund because there's no chance me or anyone I know is spending 4 hours over the weekend on a train to/from London, fuck that

I reckon the little ones nursery will decide to close next week, and if they do, I would expect them to refund me too

oh any my long weekend in a caravan next week with my elderly folks with underlying health conditions, that's not happening either, Haven better be ready to refund

I'm not panicking though

bet I dont' get any refunds either

The carehome have told me I can talk to my mum through her window as she is, fortunately, in a ground floor room. There is a zero visitor rule and she’s too frail to take outside yet.

Its better than nothing.

2020 better have something decent up its sleeve for later in the year, because so far it’s been ten tons of shit.

there was a woman on R5 earlier, married to her husband for 56 years and in that time they've spent a week apart

he's in a care home with dementia and she can't see him

she asked if she could stand on the grounds and look at him, from distance, through a window, and they said no

So you'd be outside the building, talking through the window?
I'd be climbing in.

To be honest, if I happen to be carrying the virus, it would finish her off within days.

We need her to see this out as I can’t imagine not giving her a cuddle when she’s so poorly.

On an unrelated note, how are you getting on? I know bookings dropped off but hopefully they’re picking up again?
