Great weekend for footy. My lad (6) scored his first goal and won MOTM, then the eldest put in a shift for her team against Blackpool FC U12s. Lost 5-3 but it was really close.

Total contrast to mine. Eldest got beat 3-1 and to his own admission played terrible. My youngest got beat 5-1 and by by his own admission he couldnt give a flying fuck :D

Just waiting for my flight home from Spain, the eldest lads team have been playing in a tournament over here “the Barcelona experience” and what an experience it was for them (and the parents) a few days in Barca taking in a game and doing the tour, then a couple of days playing in the tournament (which they won) followed by a couple of days at Portaventura and Ferrari world.

A great few days for those involved with football if you have ever thought about it.

Salford? George Mc wants to do it for U7s. Amazing experience, proper memories

Yes Salford, I’d tell him to leave it a year or 2, I don’t think the kids would appreciate it as much at that age and it’s a draining few days (for the parents as well 🍻

My oldest Grandson went to play in Barcelona with West Brom when he was about 12 - he is 20 this year and left Redditch United last year. Local Sunday league now. Youngest is at Redditch in the under 13 team

Mrs got talking to the dad of a lad in my grandson’s class at school today. The lad is 8 and potty about football. His dad is a Massive so takes him to City one night a week for sessions. Also drives his lad over to Bolton one night a week for sessions with us. Couldn’t speak highly enough about what BWFC put on for the really young ones apparently

anyone know what age change of shorts and socks in the event of a clash is introduced?

Does that make sense?

TIA

Do you not just have one team in training bibs?

its not even as simple as that!

i coach different ages within a club. all clubs have constitutions, which dictate their colours. at a certain age, they have to have a completely different kit to their home strip to avoid clashes- i'm not sure if that comes from the league, county fa, fa or higher... i dont even know who actually enforces this, but in theory at some age there should be a total contrast of kits- ideally keeper in different coloured shirts as well.

under 8s were fine in bibs (referees not required), but (i think u13s), it should be a total change.

my clubs shorts and socks- navy home, black away!

added to shirts being 50% the same colour just seems a farce, and we are haemorrhaging money for the sake of a couple of shades

Time someone invented a cloth which was one colour on the outside and another colour on the inside. I’ve seen those designed to be turned inside out but they were double thickness and perish the thought some football mum should think poor little Thomas would overheat wearing a double thickness football top.

Had a kit like that playing for Dukes Gate 15 years ago. Awful

Off to Warwick Uni after work tomorrow with the youngest (now 7) for a tournament. Big faff getting there after work for a 9am start on Saturday. Guarantee they'll get knocked out and we're home for noon.

Warwick Uni host a premier league tournament for u8s; playing at a decent level?

There’s boozer just outside of the campus with a decent beer garden- enjoy

My son did his degree there. Fantastic memories.

Bars/Costa etc and eateries on site and like the OP says nice boozer on entrance and a big Tesco/Aldi within walking distance.

Great campus, and overall fantastic Uni.

Not the best place to get to for 9AM mind, but at least it not mid-week.

Found out about the realities of kids football this week. My son who is 11 has played with the same “pre-academy” team for 5 years. 2 nights a week of really hard work. Always in the top third of the group. Suffered from Osgood Schlatters growing disease this season so the club’s physio massively restricted how much he was allowed to play. Released this week with very little explanation after a less good season than previously. But still as good as many of the retained boys who weren’t carrying injuries all season. Had assumed he would at least have next season to prove himself again. Had no idea quite how hard it would hit him. Horrible horrible week

Awful bud, I’m dreading it… I try and reassure my lad that it’s a journey, it has to end at some point and just enjoy it whilst you can.

Osgoods is a bastard, hope your lads ok; keep his chin up. Was he at a DC? They’ll still be scouts about, and other clubs will be alert to him.

Thanks mate. My son was never going to be a professional footballer but he loved challenging himself at a higher level than his grassroots. More importantly he had made some really good friends who he loved spending time with. He was playing in what I think some clubs call their elite development team. He’s been offered a place in their standard development team where a lot of his grassroots teammates play so I think he will probably do that and will have a lot of fun. Just tough for him to take right now.

Still good bud, he’ll have mates for life, and the most important thing is he enjoys himself. God that he’s challenging himself- that fire in his belly will take him a long way

Sounds like there’s a promotion/relegation thing going on within the club where, irrespective of the reasons, a kid underperforming (relative to his own perceived abilities and due to Osgood Schlatter’s) will be placed in the next group down.
perhaps over performing May lead to ‘promotion’ back up to elite.

The O/S is something my daughter suffered with. Probably through doing too much sports training. It isn’t for ever though; just through the latest growth spurt.
