Used to meet my brother at Mary D’s whenever we played them. Certainly an experience Went in the Townley with the in-laws mob before the Anelka game. They lasted halfway into first pint before told to leave and had to go to the ground to freeze. Luckily I was away from them at bar and stopped for couple Quote

The peelers were doing fine until the bingo started in the other room and half of the blokes cleared off to bingo. Quote
TrickyTrotter Posted January 27 Posted January 27 No prizes for this one but seems as good a place as any to post this. Quote
gonzo Posted January 28 Posted January 28 What stations would've been either side of that journey? Quote
Rival Son Posted January 28 Posted January 28 There are thee possible sides to that journey. The train has come from Darcy Lever. If going left at Burnden Junction, the next station would be Moses Gate. If going right at the junction, it would be Bolton Trinity Street. Quote

Rival Son Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Eastwards from Darcy Lever, you’d have a choice after Bradley Fold: left for Bury or right for Radcliffe. But this is getting a bit train spotterish!!! Quote

I only really remember the cutrent Radcliffe Station But Im aware of the old line and there was Black Lane on Ainsworth Rd and Bradley Fold Was that it for Radcliffe stations or was there always a Bury/Manc line? Quote
Rival Son Posted January 28 Posted January 28 After Black Lane, the line from Bolton joined the Bury-Manchester line (now Metrolink) at Radcliffe. Not that I’m old enough to remember this, either! Quote
Whitestar Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Been down a rabbit hole before with train photos, I'm not one bit interested in train stuff but asked a history question regarding Daubhill station and was fascinated by the info you lot knew and great pics. Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Love looking at old train maps etc At one stage Leigh had something daft like 5 different stations on all sorts of different lines. Now the nearest you get is looking longingly at the skyline of our metropolis when travelling alongside the East Lancs Rd between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester Quote

We used to pedal our bikes up to Bradley Fold and stand on the footbridge enveloped in steam 🙂 Quote
Whitestar Posted January 28 Posted January 28 I grew up round Deane & Daubhill areas and never realised at the time about the old lines going under Hulton lane area, across on behind morris green lane area. When i was at school i had a girlfriend that lived at Lostock and i can remember going for a walk one time up some sort of area that what must have been an old line towards Hunger Hill??? Obviously never give any of this a second thought at the time but now I'm sad enough to think i might research all this🤔. Quote
wakey Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Remember as a kid walking along that line from Darcy Lever and looking down on Burnden. Was overgrown and like something out of a zombie apocalypse film. Had to climb over some barriers to get there, remember it being a bit hairy. Can't believe I did it now looking back as I'm shit scared of heights these days. Quote

But this is getting a bit train spotterish!!! You're quite right. Much of the old line is now a public cycleway into Bury now. The bridge Wakey mentions is indeed quite high: I'm not great with heights either, but standing still on it, and looking around provides a different view to what was available before. Quote

Just to to prove my trainspotting credentials, if you have a look at the signals the train had authority to take the left hand line towards Moses Gate. Quote

Is it that big frame thing, with an arm sticking out to the right (as we look at it)? Quote
