Carlisle (A)

I’m sure I saw a thread for the Boxing Day game already? Must be going mad.

Anyway, Evatt has confirmed that Tutte and Kioso are back, thank god. In my opinion we should be able to put out our current strongest 11.

I’d go with the usual back 3, Kioso back in at right wing back, move Jones back to the left, Tutte and Thomasson in centre mid and Sarcevic further forward behind Doyle and Delfounso.

Saying that, with how inconsistent we are we could play our best team and lose 4-0. If we can start quickly and get an early goal then a comfortable 2-0 win is my prediction - another kick start to the season!

Carlisle are the masters of bad timing, their only season in the top flight being the only season in post war football the country's most popular club were in the 2nd tier. They got a big derby v Newcastle in the top flight but would have had a big derby v Sunderland and the big one v Man Utd if they had stayed in the second tier.

Having to play Bolton the week after a pathetic home loss v Tranmere is also bad timing, Bolton sure to be up for it.Carlisle 1 Bolton 2

Once went to a night match there near Easter time, we lost 5-0.

Seem to remember you stood on old railway sleepers with cinders in-between.

Pop Robson did the damage if I recall. I was only a nipper, on our way up to Aviemore, had an overnighter in Carlisle to take in this game.

Id say about 1982 time

I went to that one in Max's van.

Looked it up &.....it was April 83, same season we beat them twice at home, but we were relegated. My memory of the game (possibly unfair ) was that Neil Berry was especially hopeless.

My plumber's son is the goalie for Carlisle. Hope we throw the kitchen sink at him.

Any luck they have a leaky defence

I went to that on official coach, one of my 1st aways that wasn't local.  I remember us singing John McGovern's Super White Army for about 20 minutes non stop, the thrashing on the pitch seemed secondary.  If it was now the players and manager would be getting dog's abuse.

Our 3-0 home win at Christmas included the Jim McDonagh goal.

About time Doyle had a tap in

I went Carlisle after a stop over in B/Pool for the Easter Holidays after the home defeat with Leeds. We played like a bag of shite that night, nearly crashed my van entering the M 6 on the way home.

Died aged 41

No, his debut was only 7

Qpr away on motd

When McDonagh scored I don't think he went particularly mad with his celebration. Keepers union maybe. Tim Howard didn't even celebrate when he put one past Bogdan at Goodison.

Went Carlisle in the Ian Greaves era .Got beat 3-2 they scored a late winner. It was very feisty on & off the pitch , not much segregation.

It felt like a different country, Bulgaria or similar , but cold.

Never been back.

I can still see the backline turning in unison and heading for him to celebrate.

Apologies got my games mixed up.  Twas Burnley mid Jan

As pointed out by a few others, yes Burnley.

What I wouldn't give to stuff Burnley 3-0 in 2nd tier now with our goalie bagging one to really rub it in.

It was a fortnight after beating Blackburn on NY Day, and we still had less than 9k on.

I had a different recollection.  I'm sure I remember him running to the jubilant Manny Road really lapping it up.

I thought the same

I think I have only been once, pre season and curcic got sent off.

me and gumbo drove, went to a pub in the centre and quickly left, got a few cans from the supermarket and sat in the sunshine !

I went the one in 76, Bolton took the pubs over before and after the match, won 1-0 and no mither back to the train station for post match cocktails.

Same.

Made to feel extremely unwelcome.

I remember it being a beautiful day too.

The 5-0 midweek defeat doesn’t seem like it was nearly 40 years ago.

How times flies when you’re having fun.
