July 22, 20251 yr 18 hours ago, Cheese said: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cvg9ky87dpdt We, the signatories listed below, come together with a simple, urgent message: the war in Gaza must end now. The suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths. The Israeli government’s aid delivery model is dangerous, fuels instability and deprives Gazans of human dignity. We condemn the drip feeding of aid and the inhumane killing of civilians, including children, seeking to meet their most basic needs of water and food. It is horrifying that over 800 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid. The Israeli government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable. Israel must comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law. The hostages cruelly held captive by Hamas since 7 October 2023 continue to suffer terribly. We condemn their continued detention and call for their immediate and unconditional release. A negotiated ceasefire offers the best hope of bringing them home and ending the agony of their families. We call on the Israeli government to immediately lift restrictions on the flow of aid and to urgently enable the UN and humanitarian NGOs [non-governmental organisations] to do their life-saving work safely and effectively. We call on all parties to protect civilians and uphold the obligations of international humanitarian law. Proposals to remove the Palestinian population into a “humanitarian city” are completely unacceptable. Permanent forced displacement is a violation of international humanitarian law. We strongly oppose any steps towards territorial or demographic change in the occupied Palestinian territories. The E1 settlement plan announced by Israel’s civil administration, if implemented, would divide a Palestinian state in two, marking a flagrant breach of international law and critically undermine the two-state solution. Meanwhile, settlement building across the West Bank including east Jerusalem has accelerated while settler violence against Palestinians has soared. This must stop. We urge the parties and the international community to unite in a common effort to bring this terrible conflict to an end, through an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire. Further bloodshed serves no purpose. We reaffirm our complete support to the efforts of the US, Qatar and Egypt to achieve this. We are prepared to take further action to support an immediate ceasefire and a political pathway to security and peace for Israelis, Palestinians and the entire region. This statement has been signed by: The foreign ministers of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. Plus the EU commissioner for equality, preparedness and crisis management. I've lost track of it all now. The above seems a good thing, not that they'll pay any attention until the US sign up of course. I presume the above means that we are now halting all sales of arms to them (I honestly don't know if we have or not)
July 22, 20251 yr It's hideous. As is our complicity. It'll be remembered for a long time. It's not something you can brush off with plausible deniability. It's a live streamed genocide.
July 22, 20251 yr Shooting people queueing up for food is a bit wanky. As is shooting people at a gig. As is firing missliles at schools As is kidnapping and torturing youngsters from a gig for over a year. and etc..
July 22, 20251 yr ... and all it is doing is breeding more and more hate, and ultimately more and more terrorists.
July 22, 20251 yr So "sickened" by the "grotesque" scenes that they'll do absolutely fuck all about it. Time to sanction Israel

July 22, 20251 yr 4 hours ago, kent_white said: Respectfully, I think you're wrong. This war in particular has been decisive in lots of different ways, the near elimination of Hamas, the decapitation of Hezbollah and the strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities (if they end up being as impactful as the US administration have claimed) will alter the power dynamics in the Middle East forever. But the manner in which it's been fought (and is still being fought in Gaza) should be a reminder that at times, countries allied with 'the west' are no better than the people we're trying to get rid of. Let's fucking hope so.

July 22, 20251 yr Everyone has the right to starve children to death in order to defend themselves. Apparently… Edited July 22, 20251 yr by Jol_BWFC

The problem is mate, the UN have just been asked by your spiritual king (through Steve Witkoff) to step in and provide support to his failing attempts to deliver aid (and presumably not shoot people while they're doing it). Also, the Gaza Health Ministry isn't run BY Hamas, it's run under Hamas. So it's medical professionals that are making these claims. Hamas don't dictate casualty figures. They are an amalgamation of data that comes in from hospitals and clinics across Gaza. Dismissing these stories as 'Hamas propaganda' is wishful thinking on your part in my opinion mate. And dismissing it because the BBC have published it is a logical fallacy, specifically an ad hominem, or maybe a generic fallacy, probably a mixture of the two 😁 In either event, it doesn't stand up to scrutiny, as it's being corroborated by independent international theirs parties. BBC is biased (and) BBC reported the figures (therefore) the figures are wrong. Doesn't make sense logically. It also doesn't make sense if you substitute BBC for GMH (or IDF for that matter). Feel free to pull me for the same errors in reasoning if I straybinto similar territory. We all do it from time to time 😁

But it's certainly not any better for these dead or injured people. Or their families and loved ones. It could just as easily end up being the catalyst for a global conflict as usher in a new era of peace and prosperity for the region. I'd argue the former is the more likely of the two. Certainly it's stoked up enough tension for us to look forward to at least another century of them all trying to kill each other.

I presume the above means that we are now halting all sales of arms to them (I honestly don't know if we have or not) The arms industry will always be one or two steps ahead of government. A guided bomb manufactured by Boeing is doing most of the damage, a critical component is a fin assembly made in a factory in Alabama owned by MBDA(UK) which is part of the European consortium MBDA Missles. So far they have evaded sanctions as the factory is in the US and profits are dissolved through various international accounts. The US are nervous as their smart weapons including the F35 are dependent on Israeli software developed in Silicon Wadi, as is our Storm Shadow

It didn't help the cause that some bellend claimed something daft like 20,000 kids were going to starve to death that weekend unless the trucks rolled in with food immediately. I'm still not sure why he said that. I can only assume he misunderstood a brief he'd been given. Anyway - we were told there was no risk of starvation by those ITK on here at the time. And I've been reliably informed that this figure is bullshit too. So we can all rest easy knowing everything is just fine over there! 😁

With reference to the highlighted part, you are living in cloud cuckoo land if you believe that any 'government' entity in Gaza does anything other than that instructed by the murderous fanatics they are led by. Of course you are entitled to your opinion as I am mine. I would not trust a single number, 'fact', 'declaration' or, in fact, absolutely anything they say. Similarly I trust neither the BBC nor ITV News as are both driven by woke ideology adherent management these days. They want gutting and restarting if they want to be seen as truly impartial. Every story they run is framed in a way that leads to only one conclusion. Left leaning wokism.

I certainly won't be forgetting the thousands of atrocities carried out around the globe in the name of Palestine. Neutralising as many terrorists and their sympathisers is a good thing wouldn't you agree? All for the greater good. It could just as easily end up being the catalyst for a global conflict as usher in a new era of peace and prosperity for the region. Like we didn't have global conflict of a sort? Shall I start listing them again - nah, fuck that. Simpler to provide this link https://www.fondapol.org/en/study/islamist-terrorist-attacks-in-the-world-1979-2024/ I'd argue the former is the more likely of the two. That would be a result.
