Food / Delivery shortages

Covid?

Brexit?

Both?

I notice it’s taken McDonald’s to run out of milkshakes for it to actually cause people to lose their shit.

I read that 14,000 EU lorry drivers left jobs in the UK since brexit, and only 600 have returned.

Covid caused loss of tests to be cancelled.

90% more holidays in teaching

4 weeks vs 12 weeks, that's not 90%...

Although technically as a teacher you don't have holidays as you're only paid for 195 days a year.

He can’t answer. He’ll be busy doing that job where he turns up at 9.00, home 6 and a half hours later with an hour for lunch.

All nip out to the local pub too for a liquid lunch.

You're not helping your cause with that one.

That'll make your day rate look massively excessive.

I'm not whinging BTW, saying that driving isn't a bad wage. Don't think teachings a long term career for me, but there's a lot behind that.

£150 a day really isn't very much though.

30000÷200 days = £150 per day

Am I missing summat?

You can get a decent one for 15 quid from Amazon.

With matching pocket hankie.

Still don't think it's very much as a day rate given what some other professions charge.

There's a difference between what professions charge and what they get paid.

In my last job I got about 20% of my charge out rate, for instance.

It is a lot more than the average wage.

Think average is £26k , £150 per day is £750 a week so about £37k

For the level of responsibility I think its low, given we've just set our day rate to £450 a day for one person. And that's media ads and marketing fluff.

Yeah but do you get 12 weeks holiday and 6 hour days?

North South divide in full flow here.

£450 a day, I'd be more than happy to make that in a week.

Get a cravat, move south and come up with adverts that tick all the woke boxes and you too could earn £450 a day.

£450 a DAY???

That’s £90k a year to do some colouring in and adding background music to people wearing tampons.

Utter fucking madness

I get to work where I want and up to point when I want around client's needs.

To that end, we've not yet sorted out the holidays as in effect we're always 'on'

supply and demand innit - he couldn't charge it, if nobody paid it.

One of my mates is an IT contractor, and he's just started working on a 3 year contract for one of the major Supermarket brands. I don't know how much he's earning, but his "day rate" is £200 a day more than he was on in his last contract.....so clearly he's doing reasonably well...............although he does keep bleating on about being inside IR35 now, which is why he needed the extra uplift in day rate

Aye, but we're not always on a day rate. We're not lawyers! Lots of projects have a set fee, so a tour for example will be a set up fee - say 4k (marketing plans, materials, working with venues) then a running fee once its on the road (depending on the show but that can be much less like £500 a week) which is a meeting with the client once a week and making sure the venues are doing their job.

The day rate is more of a guide for us to make sure we're not making a loss on anything or if we get a strategy gig do we can cost the time it takes.
