Food / Delivery shortages

Covid?

Brexit?

Both?

I notice it’s taken McDonald’s to run out of milkshakes for it to actually cause people to lose their shit.

I read that 14,000 EU lorry drivers left jobs in the UK since brexit, and only 600 have returned.

Covid caused loss of tests to be cancelled.

supply and demand innit - he couldn't charge it, if nobody paid it.

One of my mates is an IT contractor, and he's just started working on a 3 year contract for one of the major Supermarket brands. I don't know how much he's earning, but his "day rate" is £200 a day more than he was on in his last contract.....so clearly he's doing reasonably well...............although he does keep bleating on about being inside IR35 now, which is why he needed the extra uplift in day rate

Like everyone we charge more the bigger the budget.

We're a start up, the real money is made on media and we only get a % cut back on that. We're a start up, things are going OK but it's always tight - more clients good but not too many we can't do the work. Could be trying to find a new job in 18 months if it all goes tits up!

It's also not North South as a divide - agencies charge the same in Manchester as London.

Anyway, I still think teachers get paid a lot less for what they actually do was my point.

Overpaid workshy moaning cunts

Those who can(‘t be arsed)

Teach.

Well that's not true now is it.

My point was you can get paid a lot more, with much less responsibility.

Same with nurses and care home staff.

What we value in society is arse about face. We pay the least to those with the most important jobs.

I know, you little tinker

Big bosses in NHS are on 100k+ per year. Hard work having a meeting for a meeting for a meeting. Oh and occasionally they send us emails telling us how valued we are and how proud they are of us. Cheers cocker.

The whole "North v South" divide is generally only wheeled out by folk with a chip on their shoulder. As far as I can tell, you can earn just as much in any Northern town as you can in any Southern town. In fact, my experience tells me that in the main, those in the north have far more disposable income than those in the south, due to house pricing

I don’t work externally often but my day rate was £1200 years ago. IT for you. That’s a normal rate for a contractor anyhow, that’s not so much of a tax fiddle these days.

You can now. When I left in 2000, there was still an idea that you had to go to London to get the job you wanted in my sector and then come back up North to get one of the few better jobs. They were paying peanuts until a few years ago.

This has changed now, and the pandemic has speeded the process up, which is great. There will still be people wanting to move to the capital but I don't think I'd have been in so much of a rush if I was 21 now and just graduated as I was back then. You can do the job from anywhere now - I was still getting image faxes and popping over to designers to see wet proofs until 2010. And also, I could bill less, make it more attractive as a proposition and have a better quality of life in terms of disposable income.

If this does take off, as soon as the kids are old enough, we'll be back in Manchester like a shot and hopefully enjoy and easier financial exsistance. It is a shame though, because I do love London and everything it has but its only 2 hours on the train.

to be honest, there's no amount of money you could pay me to sit in endless meetings

tried that in my last job at leadership/team leader/"board" level

fucking hated it

I'd rather do some actual work

My uncle is a freelance comms consultant for the NHS. Left his job, hired him back as a consultant for double the money and less hours.

He earns a decent wage. Enough to have a DB7, a top of the range Land-rover and a very nice house in Manchester. He does the hours though to be fair.

Don't mind meetings, looking forward to dropping the line management though.

Ungrateful little shits always want more for less.

my managment team leader skills amounted to:

Just do It

Don't know how to do it? Look it up online, that's how I learned to do it

You still can't do it?

FFS, give it here, I'll do it

Mine is, I don't know how to do that, so you pull the data and I'll say where the spend goes.

Yes I know you think you do all the work but you don't. You just do the boring bits and we've all been there.

Gas price has risen 37% in the last 24 hours.

I'm convinced Putin is building a Death Star.

Current energy prices would have stopped Hitler sooner than the Allies did.

I dunno what class 2 entails but a lad who was working for me 3 months back is now driving class 2 for 13 an hour

It should rise to 15 in a few months

rigids are class 2. Artics are 1. Basically.

it’s a good job being a truck driver. As you get more miles and experience you can demand higher pay. Some drivers earn a serious wage from It. I don’t get the fact folk look down on it. I love driving so might be different but if my industry/company collapsed and I needed to find work I would likely go and do that than start again.
I’ve got a class 2 license through work and would have done class 1 this year if I hadn’t changed jobs. Might come in handy one day

So, bigger than lutons, less than 7.5 tonners?

above 3.5t is classed as a category c vehicle. Although a class 2 would allow someone to drive a 7.5t but old fuckers like me and you can/could anyway someone can also take a test designed just to allow them To drive 7.5t vehicles I believe without having to do a class 2 but couldn’t drive above 7.5t

As above but to add further info class 2 allows you to drive a rigid body truck up to 32 tonnes.

Old class 3 was rigid with two axles

Old class 2 was rigid with three axles, twin axle on back.

Both became LGV-C or C+E if it tows a trailer.
