Food / Delivery shortages

Covid?

Brexit?

Both?

I notice it’s taken McDonald’s to run out of milkshakes for it to actually cause people to lose their shit.

I read that 14,000 EU lorry drivers left jobs in the UK since brexit, and only 600 have returned.

Covid caused loss of tests to be cancelled.

I believe that if you're a certain age, (like what I am) you can drive a 7.5 tonne lorry without having to pass a test.

I hired one years back when we moved house.

Yeah I read something about passing before 97 as well?

Yep. Think 97 was the cut off point. They call it grandfather rights. Cheeky fuckers.

How very odd

I was liking the article that sweep posted. It’s relevant to our business so interesting read for me.

Fair enough

I thought for a brief second you were pleased.

Think about the opportunities that exist now China is struggling though 🙂

ultimately, it's going to be relevant to nearly every business one way or another - it's absolute chaos out there, and shows the whole shortages and shipping situation we're seeing now is a totally global thing (Brexit doesn't help of course, but it's definitely a global issue)

I'm not sure in this instance, why Spider has pointed out that you liked the article.........

Sorted that.

Whatever it is Mounts imports, I'm sure he's got 3 years stock and planned ahead though.

I imagine he'll be unaffected.

Now then, one of our customers, we've recently quoted him a 75 week delivery on some Microprocessors, and he's not happy, as usually they would be on an 8-10 week delivery time, so he's pretty much got to pay huge prices on the grey market now, or not build anything for 18 months.......so to help out, we've just sold him some product, 3000pcs @ £18 each.....usually these parts sell for around £3 each 🙂

Anyway, he's raging, and think's he's been stitched up, not by us, but by the Chinese (Even though the parts he wants/needs are actually made in the South Korea...) - so he says to my colleague, something along the lines of how the UK should be building Wafer Fabs (which produce the "raw" ICs) here in the UK, and we should then stick it to the Chinese. In the ideal world, we then could be on control of our own components, and get product into the market place early next year. He was most put out, when it was explained to him that to build a Fab from scratch takes around $10B and 5-7 years. He's now decided that we're too reliant on the Far East........which wouldn't be so bad, if he'd not spent the last 15~20 years buying everything he can from Far East manufacturers, including his PCBs (which he then get's populated in Poland, as it's lower cost than having it done here in the UK)  - he's a dick...sadly, he's a dick with a decent spend, so we have to entertain him

I'd forgotten about that, was it Miami who was saying people should have stuck 3 or 4 years worth on the shelf, so allow for any bumps in the road

No, it was Mounts. Miami, to be fair, never had a pop that we lost our european customers.

Mounts took great delight in telling me we ran our business badly and should have seen bumps in the road coming.

Poor planning, apparently.

Which is why he'll be sittin' pretty right now.

Can drive one but not professionally, you need the cpc for that.

Just shy of 2k for a c1+e atm. You normally take the rigid test then the truck n trailer (class 1) 6 months later. You can jump straight to class 1 atm.

Would it be a better job than teaching? Probably..

Nah, I'm stuck in teaching, just saying it's quite a well paid job atm truck driving..

Similar salary to teaching, but much much lower barriers to entry.

Don’t worry about the driver crisis folks, apparently the treasury has received 27 temporary visa applications from the EU. Better than a kick in the bollocks I suppose😂

He can’t answer. He’ll be busy doing that job where he turns up at 9.00, home 6 and a half hours later with an hour for lunch.
