September 10, 20241 yr Only saw from around 55 mins. Hard to make any serious judgements, but a win is a win. One frustration is still the inverted wingers, who either cut back, showing play down, or when they do go on the outside, they seem a bit uncomfortable, and the end product is not as good as it could be. Both wide subs were guilty of it. Obviously, a packed defence doesn't help, but the tendency to come inside makes that worse. Just occasionally, it would be good to see a wide man/men on the traditional side. If it doesn't work, then they can go back.

Gordon is a more closer to a proper winger, can go both ways, fast direct, and definitely makes a difference. You need somebody like that playing with Kane. I think the old school wingers who only go on the outside are rare now. it's not the way the game is played. If the winger comes inside, it's the overlapping full back that has the responsibility to go on the outside. The balance of the whole team is better with a direct player on the left, and Gordon currently is the best option we have.

September 10, 20241 yr Gordon started off really well and had their full back on toast ... but then Grealish gravitated over to that side, doing his usual walking football thing and it became more congested which meant Gordon no longer had the space. What this England team needs more than anything is a decent attacking left-footed LB bit there seems to be none around. What we'd give for an Ashley Cole.

September 11, 20241 yr A good performance for an hour, against a poor team. Guilty of missing opportunities to be several ahead before half time. They, meanwhile, should have scored twice as our defence had drifted & were cut open. But the football was more fluid & Gordon played very well ... except I wish he was on the right wing so could get more & better crosses in. On the hour the sadly obligatory musical chairs happend & the game lost its flow. Though Madueke is a talent, as is Eze. The wank fest about Alexander Arnold continues. Does Ian Wright own him ?

If Carsley had phoned in sick 5 days ago and Rice picked the team, we would still have won both games. That's the reality of international football against championship standard teams, its irrelevant for England until the big tournaments.
