Love threads like this and others about music friom the past where there's a common theme re: The Smiths in that it's so cool to gloify Johnny Marr but understate Morrissey's involvement.

With each other, both would have been nothing and music would have been poorer for it.

Like him or loathe him, Morrissey is a musical genius and has been massively successful without Marr, by employing guitarists not quite as good, but good enough. Marr, sadly, couldn't carry a tune in a bucket vocally and has never found a permanent lead singer to play alongside.

Politically/socially, Moz is an absolute train-wreck, of course.

Let’s take the Beatles out of it, The Smiths for my money are the best band this country has ever produced.
My mate wanted guitar lessons as a kid, the teacher was a session guitarist and he asked him what kind of music do you want to be, my mate said “Johnny Marr I wanna be  Johnny Marr type guitarist”

The teacher summed it up perfectly

“You can’t be like Johnny Marr guitarist because even Johnny Marr doesn’t know how he’s doing it so you’ve no chance so I’m not going to take your mams money to try and reach an unreachable dream”

With so many bands you get ep’s, experimental albums, below bar albums, hit and miss singles, everything The Smiths have done  you’ve heard and it’s all absolute gold. They just never missed.

Sorry lads about three decent songs aside Oasis were shite.

Listen to Revolver or Beggars Banquet RSVP - pisses over anything they did.

Noel Gallagher has rings on his fingers ffs.

Shittest gig ever after Happy Mondays and Johnny Marr had finished.

Loads of people left when Oasis took the stage.

"HOW MANY Different  PEOPLE CHANGE HOW MANY Lives aRE LIVING STRAAANGE'

Shite.

Lad rock now dad rock.

He has rings on his fingers.

His brother has hair transplants.

Girls who want boys
Who like boys to be girls
Who do boys like they're girls
Who do girls like they're boys

And anyways Oasis’s music never changed my life.

The first ever band I was obsessed with was the spice girls. Im not arsed that it's not cool. It was part of my childhood. I was always Geri. Still remember all my dance moves. No fucks given.

There was a documentary series about them recently - it was quite eye-opening about the nature of the music industry and tabloids.

I had a porn mag back in the day and Geri was in it - black hair collars and cuffs though.

That's lyrical genius about sexual ambiguity in the 90's - and none of Blur wore rings on their fingers.

"Walking slowly down the hall - faster than a cannonball".

Robbed a living.

You could analyse every set of lyrics in the land, they are all fucking bollocks.

Head shaved wasn't it? Inferring he was high on drugs.

Even a fan can’t comprehend the utter tosh of those lyrics and made up something completely different  😂

I like 'Digsy's Dinner'

EFA.

Digsy's Dinner? A tone deaf bloke could knock up better with a recorder.

Oasis were fucking shit.

I'm not championing Blur but Oasis robbed the bank. Listen to their albums in full - drudgery pub rock.

And Noel Gallagher STILL wears rings on his fingers.

Three decent songs - throw enough shit at the wall.

All subjective innit. Youri slated Sam Fender in another thread. His song writing is absolutely superb. All tales of his life and totally relatable.

But hes shit because he sounds like the strokes.

Even though he doesnt. And the strokes are fucking shit.

The Strokes are excellent they should’ve headlined Glasto but they couldn’t and instead the crowd were treated to Coldplay. Now they are fuckin monkey gash

I actually thought that, but i double shaved and every lyrics website out there reckons it's checked

Anyway, i like both, some blur songs were better than oasis and vice versa but i get a warm nostalgic feeling when i listen to oasis so they win for me

I asked my owd fella did any band change his life he said The Clash and in particular London casing .

I’ve told this before but I love it and I reckon I’ll tell it at his funeral

When I started getting into buying vinyl records he says to me “ right listen I wanna give you something now that means a hell of a lot to me, I have played the life out of this, when I was young I didn’t have a lot of money and buying records was easy to do, so the records I did get I worked bloody hard to get them”

Passes me The Clash London Calling and says, “listen to it, enjoy it and look after it, it means a lot to me that”

I opened it , inside the cover on a sticky label it says “Property of Bolton Library”

I said you robbed it from the library?

”like I said I didn’t have a lot of money growing up”

Yeah they are deffo the best ones, although it never goes down well when they do their own stuff haha, they get quite touchy the floydites.

Seen them 5-6 times at MEN, Preston and Winter Gardens, absolutel madness a band sells these places out and they arent even playing.

Brit Floyd are very good too. Off the wall were crap.

Re coldplay, saw them at the academy with elbow supporting in 02ish. Elbow were terrible and Coldplay werent much better :D

And whilst we’re on misheard lyrics

That titanic song

It isn’t “my heart will go on”

its

“The hot dogs go on”

A song about a bbq before dying in the icy waters of the North Atlantic.
