Next 7 Games - Predictions?

Last year I made a "Last 7 Games" topic, for our final run-in of the League Two campaign, as they were our most important fixtures of the season.

This time round, I'd argue that these next 7 games are our most important. We really need to climb the table this month if we have any hopes of achieving something meaningful this season (i.e. play-offs).

I know a lot of people won't even want to consider play-offs right now. But humour me in giving your predictions in what is going to be a season-defining month.

  • Morecambe (A) 21st Place
  • Charlton (H) 15th Place
  • Oxford (A) 6th Place
  • Burton (A) 10th Place
  • Wimbledon (H) 20th Place
  • Lincoln (H) 18th Place
  • MK Dons (A) 4th Place

I'll go first:

Morecambe 1 - 3 Bolton

Bolton 3 - 0 Charlton

Oxford 2 - 2 Bolton

Burton 1 - 1 Bolton

Bolton 4 - 1 Wimbledon

Bolton 2 - 0 Lincoln

MK Dons 2 - 1 Bolton

Feel like I'm being way too positive predicting only one loss from 7 games. But that's what I've come to... 14 points from 21.

Guessing that will put us in somewhere like 8th. Feel like there'll be some massive bullshit go against us as there always is, either a bullshit penalty, or bullshit offside and Burton and MK Dons to me seem like the most likely ones to throw that sort of thing up, not sure why.

12pts from the next 7 games, any more than that is a Brucie Bonus imo.

Restart the season with the squad we have now

Evatt missed a trick not signing them all last July.

No it’s all part of the plan; like last season and get automatic last game of the season

We had to wait till now for that £5m loan to clear so we could start spending

3 out of next 4 are away, that will be the test.

If we get 8 points or more from those 4 games then it’s season on.

Anything less and especially a defeat @ Oxford and we prepare for L1 again.

In all honesty you cannot have such a poor 3 month spell and still expect to get in the play-offs.

If we had had this team from the start of the season, we would be more than likely top 6 and challenging.

hopefully we will have a strong end to the season, but would promotion be a step too far ?

for me, finish strong, stay down, strengthen further and have a really good go at it next season.  Another strengthen in January and we could then be ready.

The squad rotation is going to be really interesting for the rest of the season. Dempsey and Sadlier certainly haven't come here to warm the bench and truth be told if we were still playing 4 at the back, they'd have an easier time nailing down a starting spot. But having that extra defender means heightened competition for a place in midfield/attack.

Obviously a lot of the rotation hinges on whether we continue our current form. If we keep winning, then it's really tough job for Evatt to get the balance right of keeping players happy and not tinkering too much.

Wouldn't change MJ or Morley currently, both got that presence/stature about them which we need considering how many small/technical players we have. I suppose Dempsey might have it slightly easier in that he can replace either Morley OR Lee in a 3-5-2. Whereas Sadlier can only really replace the 10 role, unless he can also play up front.

A visual representation of our season, the direction we're heading in and where we have to aim for.

extend the purple line and we're champions.

Easy

I honestly think that we’re underestimating how good we’ve been these last few games.

I know that we were at home for both games but nobody else in this league has played anything like us in the last two games.

Rotherham are well organized and Wigan are strong physically but we have been scintillating and I haven’t seen anything like us this season.

Add Dempsey & Sadlier…fucking hell.

If we beat Lincoln tomorrow we'll have got 13 points from 6, meaning we'll need to draw with MK Dons to reach 2 points per game mark.

I saw on the Lincoln thread people saying we need about 9 wins to make the playoffs. Just to break that down further:

9 wins from 13 games:

Lincoln H

MK Dons A

Gillingham A

Morecambe H

Plymouth H

Crewe A

Portsmouth H

Wigan A

Sheffield H

Doncaster A

Accrington H

Cheltenham A

Fleetwood H

The 7 games I've put in BOLD are the ones that are most winnable. Means we need 2 or 3 more to get Playoffs.

Given our Home form, the ones that I've underlined should be the candidates for those points.

It really is ON. But first need to beat Lincoln.

We can afford to lose to MK Dons and Wigan being our toughest tests, however, it's never that simple. We'll probably win one of our harder games and lose one of our easier ones.

One at a time

Got giddy thinking we’d beat Burton and got put in our place. Anomaly and all that because we really bounced back.

That being said that Plymouth at home really does stand out

Still got the bottom clubs away not point in beating MK and getting rolled at Crewe

Nobody on right results but a few predicted 10 points after 5 games with some different variations. 4 from next 2 would make it 14 from 7, averaging 2 points per game, which makes it very interesting.

We're 5pts shy of the play-off line, which he has set at 1.6pts per game ie 74pts per season.
If he's right, we'll need 26pts from 13 for the play-offs.

8 wins, 2 draws, 3 defeats.

It can’t happen again - can it?

Very surprised to not reach the play offs.

Great post that!

You wouldn’t swap our last 4 with any of the others. If we are in the play-offs or within 3/4 points you’d fancy us.

However the balance needs to be that we all know games on paper are never as easy/hard as they play out in reality - Morecambe/Burton/Oxford tell us that.
