Had a similar experience when going to Stoke in 1995 so you have my every sympathy.

In short, left Bolton in the afternoon for an evening kick off to go to Stockport where Marple was going to pick me up and drive down to Stoke, the train was also going to Stoke anyway.  Train was held up due to a break down, stuck on it for 4 hours going nowhere. 4 other Bolton fans on the train so sat with them.  Finally got to Stoke and the 5 of us got a police escort to the ground. Got to the ground 5 minutes after kick off.

We drew 1-1 which gave the title to Middlesboro.

Got a lift back to Stockport to get a train to Bolton, Stockport had road closures so was re-routed which meant I missed the train. Had to wait an hour for the next one and finally got home early hours.

One of the worst days I’ve had following Bolton.

Felt like screaming. Still do feel like screaming! I've a feeling it might be a preview of what this season is going to be about - expensive and frustrating.

Could be worse - could have spent Xmas day 2015 on a megabus to Rotherham, staying overnight alone, to watch us lose 4-0 on Boxing Day. SD dedication.

Still one of the bleakest things I've read on this forum.

I could have looked at like that but less than 4 weeks later we beat Reading at Wembley. I’m taking your experience as a lucky omen.

we was drinking with his Mum and Dad after the game in the pub faceing the ground

his Dad was a big Bastard

Yep, they were both saying how much he was looking forward to the new season after playing with an injury when he joined us.

Dad was full of tatts, shades, earrings, looks handy bloke.

Hope Dempsey is ok, he’s been one of the best players in pre season.

That's pretty much what they were saying, about him having to make that choice.

They also said that he loved it at Bolton & that it was by far the best squad that he's been involved in so far. Also said that it was a proper happy dressing room and he was enjoying it.

They were with another couple whose lad plays for Barrow but I can't remember his name.

WANDERERS midfielder Kyle Dempsey was attacked during a family night out in his hometown of Maryport, Cumbria, the club has confirmed.

The 26-year-old and his father, Michael, an ex-rugby league player, both required hospital treatment after that Bolton described as an “unprovoked assault” on Saturday evening.

Dempsey, signed from Gillingham in January, had played for Wanderers against Carlisle United earlier that day.

A statement from the club read: “Bolton Wanderers Football Club is aware of an incident which took place at the weekend.

“Kyle Dempsey and his father were enjoying an evening out with their family in their home town of Maryport following Saturday’s pre-season friendly against his former club Carlisle United.

“During the course of the evening, they were both subjected to an unprovoked assault which left them requiring medical treatment.

“The Dempsey family will receive the full support of Chairman Sharon Brittan, manager Ian Evatt and the club while the incident is being investigated by Cumbria Police.

No further comment will be made at this time.”

Other side of this story coming out now...

Sounds like Dempsey and his Old Man were the ones nicked for ABH etc.

Won't be great for him, and certainly won't look good at all from the club's perspective with this statement, if this alternate side of the story is factual.
