The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

Some supermarkets are changing/screwing their suppliers in order to try to keep prices affordable and it ain't always a good thing. Tesco sausages are now made with cardboard.

6k bonus wow!

our lads might get £250-500 and we’ve done reasonable

The full £6K is based on several parameters, such as hitting sales target, hitting GP target, and also hitting the stock holding target - normally they don't get full whack, but this year they will. Also, to be fair, they don't get anything during the year, except their basic. The rest of us (Sales & PM's) generally get a decent level of commission on a monthly basis - so it's only right they get something decent at year end, especially we'd be pretty fucked without them.

We got offered a 5% cost of living rise, spoke to the owner and asked for 7.5% for everyone in the business with a review in 3 months, he agreed one lad sent email to the owner complaining that I shouldn’t get the increase as I’m highest paid in the business, he also sent it to the office manager who sent it to me… let’s just say his cards are marked.

That's utterly ridiculous, you should point out to him that you contribute far more to the business than he does (provided you do of course)  -  whilst we should appreciate the foot soldiers, they do need putting in their place every now and then 😉

I have not mentioned to him I know, office manager made me promise not to say anything, anyhow the owner has just blanked him, and won't even answer his calls, he has shot himself in the foot.

Go to a trophy shop, and get the tackiest looking thing available and get it engraved with "twat of the year" and present it at Christmas.

Liverpool, but more rugby fan wales and warrington. We do not employ Man U fans.  :)

Supports Liverpool and Warrington but Wales too?

Cut his pay.

our shop floor are on NMW

no sign of any other increases for anybody here

but, as i keep telling them, its not tough work, its days, mon-fri, and its pretty secure

still feel for em though

id like more, but some of them really do need more

oh and 17, it is 17% for nurses, isnt it?

no

stop being stupid

tin helmet on

I don't think they expect 17% tbh. It's just like any negotiation, you go in high, they go in low and you meet somewhere acceptable to both sides.

There is also the dangerous ratio of patients per nurse on most wards and departments that makes their job incredibly difficult and stressful.

Just slightly above NMW at ours

Had a lad come to me over day broke down that his landlord is being a cunt and hiking his rent and with all other increases it’s sending him under, really hard to listen to him tbh

Wages just haven't risen with cost of living.

I know our rent is high but we are so lucky that the landlord lives abroad and its her mums old house. It's not her main source of income. In the pandemic when I got made redundant we agreed what we could pay what we could afford on the deal she said she would ever ask for any back rent and she told the letting agency that she never wants us to be phoned chasing anything. Both the letting agent and the landlord have been superb.

The letting agent asks for more, we say what we can afford and the landlord says that's fine. The letting agent said our house could go for 2.1k a month, we have a locked in agreement for 1.6k

The worst thing here its the people right at the bottom, who are renting from people who have 8/10 houses and it's their income. Going fro 700 quid a month to 1k is a killer for most people in the North renting.

Normally yes, but there is a risk that asking for stupid amounts could make attitudes more entrenched from the outset.

Always two sides to a story and I've witnessed both, in extremis in the last few days.

But I'm sure you agree nurses should be paid more.

TBF to Thornberry on QT tonight she credited the Govt for at least getting into discussions with the nurses.

More than they are already.

Enough to fill a chunk of the 10s of thousands of vacancies, maybe?

Its a massive challenge is staffing in the NHS

Could do with some invaders

Perhaps the millions they spend on the Brexit festival 'Unboxed' which is still going on if you can believe that, could go to this. Possibly.

Paying similar in Hertfordshire

We don't have kids but have a three bedroom house, but needed as we both have to work from home

Pre-pandemic a three bedroom house is a family home but not now

Good luck to us finding a similar house for under £450k

If Mounts company can have 7.5% plus a £6k bonus , that might do it.

We didn’t get 6k bonus.
