The Cost Of Living Crisis

There seems to be a lot of "whataboutery" going on when discussing people wanting pay rises.

The fact that A hasn't had a pay rise for x years should have no bearing on whether B should get a pay rise.

I'm earning less now than I was pre-pandemic and everything costs so much more now, that in real terms I'm probably on half what I was.

But I don't begrudge anyone getting themselves a new deal.

Divide and conquer I think it’s called tories love it .

I've spent a bit of time at Blackpool Vic recently as the father in law had a massive heart operation last week. Got to say, I've been well impressed with everything. They've been absolutely superb. Nothing is ever too much trouble, everyone's been fully informed every step of the way. Fantastic service all round, and the place is always spotless. Don't think he wants to come home.😁

Think that heart gaff is the best one in the North West. Loads get sent there from all over.

Our kids the same on his ward, hes like Red on Shawshank Redemption now. Takes all the new lads under his wing :D

...not sure if your still going but park on Alwood opposite, or the streets surrounding. You get two hours or as long as you want after 6.

Probably got one more visit before he gets sent home (unless I get volunteered to bring him back as well). I've just been parking in the multi-story near the main entrance as I've usually got the mother in law with me, and she's not the most mobile. Charges are pretty reasonable to be fair. Most I've paid was £2.50 for a couple of hours. Costa is a fucking rip off though.

Takes the actual piss. No other brew machines or anything anywhere else though.

Queued for 20 mins on Sunday for a medium latte and cup of tea. £7.70 :D

Every time I've been, I've spent at least 20 quid on brews and sandwiches. 🤦‍♂️

I was there on Sunday as well. Did wonder if there was a chance of bumping into you. Hope your brother's doing well mate.

Was said in jest

Work in Hertford and it's one of those places you think will be nice but strangely isn't, it's just nothing

Live in Hitchin and it's nice and quiet. Stevenage isn't all that bad really, quite like Fairlands Valley Park for a walk.

Other than the footy this weekend I never bother with Cambridge. Just don't like the place

Got a mate who lives in Hitchin, he loves it. Glad its not just me regarding Hertford - you park up and start to walk round and it's oooh this is quite nice and then...nowt. Its got a decent cinema Steveange - I'll give it that.

I do like Cambridge - its just a pain of a city. Took me a hour in a morning to drive in 7 miles, go by train and walk miles, at about 6pm the city centre is dead - Mill Road is ok. Grantchester is nice on a summer's day though.

I went for a night out in Royston a few months ago, fuck me, that place has gone downhill over the years

I'm only about 10 miles way from Stevenage, and I can't remember the last time I actually went there, I think it was probably to drop Traf off at the station. It's as grim, it's worse than Bolton town centre.

I don't live in Hertfordshire by the way, I live in Bedfordshire, which if you pretend Luton doesn't exist, is not too bad 🙂

I'll be honest I can never tell is I'm in Beds, Bucks or Herts - all seem interchangable!

Used to drink in the pub that shut down in Royston - The White Bear. It was like the wild west in there for a while. The Old Bull was just creepy as. The weatherspoons isn't too bad I suppose.

Urgh, getting shivers just thinking about the place.

He's off to Qatar soon isn't he?

No, he’s had to cancel. SAS, on behalf of NATO, have asked him to sneak into Russia to assassinate Putin in an effort to put an end to the crisis in Ukraine. Obviously if he’s quick; and why wouldn’t he be, he’d normally then be able to do the Qatar thing but he found himself double-booked and instead is hiking across the Arctic all the way to the North Pole in just Y-fronts and flip-flops with just a cocktail stick to hunt food and defend himself in case of polar bear attack.

Normal week in Rudy's head.

People I know have in NHS describe it as this, where staff driven to leave and take private or agency work at far better rates, How much is being wasted on paying agencies and for the pen pushers to raise orders to get same staff back onto wards should be criminal, but good free market economics according to Rees Mogg and chums who wouldn’t be anywhere near an NHS queue

BBC says the NHS spent £3 billion on agency workers and freelancers last year.

Ah, our old friend Rees-Mogg. A sitting MP and recent cabinet minister whose company is registered in the Cayman Islands. What a top chap he is, man of the people.

Indeed, in fact some of them were on a lot more than that, I've mentioned it on here before, one of my mates is an IT Consultant who does and has worked for various Government agencies over the past few years. His starting rate is £100 per hour, and he's working with people above him who are earning far more than that. It's ridiculous the money, even he admits that, but if people will pay it, he'd be crazy to turn it down

Lad I know similar experience was at least £200 per day more than he was being offered anywhere else.

The other thing is the NHS is so big and disjointed that it may as well be a number of small organisations.

My last job was supporting the medical sector and the stories you would hear were terrible. Also add in the 'where there is blame there is a claim culture' costs of the NHS will be growing by more than inflation.

Yep, when he left Computer Centre (I think) he basically got a £150 per day wage increase.

All WFH as well, I think he's only been to London about 3 times this year. He gets to walk his kids to school and also pick them up. A decent wage, and what looks like a decent work/life balance as well

@Casinowill be along shortly to point out that he doesn't actually make anything 🙉

My uncle works in marketing and comms in the health sector - he does brilliantly well out of the NHS. Wish the arts would give those sort of contracts.

Real outside chance initials not WE by any chance ? Mate of mine from school in same area, quite a niche market .

The wife has been nurse for 36 years ward sister , midwife and practice nurse she’s had a belly full retiring at 55 in May . She’s loads of mates done the same either burnt out or not worth the hassle . There is going to be a massive hole to fill in the next few years from skilled staff retiring early after feeling under valued and under paid .
