Just having a debate with a few of the lads about the best English players And this has come up, who was better Rooney or Gazza? For me it’s Rooney all day

For me, Gazza is a nostalgia trip, an epitome of the England team that nearly got to some finals in the 90s, good, just not quite good enough 

Yeah I know Daniel Braaten etc but this video is peak Gazza. People comparing raw stats are idiots when Rooney was a striker and Gazza a midfielder.

Well unobjectively yeah. And it's hard to be objective when you are emotionally involved.

 

Gazza for me. Nothing to do with the Man U thing as Rooneys record speaks for itself. However, Gazza at his peak was exceptional and was capable of carrying the team as he did in 1990. I still think but for ‘that’ booking England would have won the World Cup that year. It completely nullified our best player.

19 goals in one season, his other 2 seasons he didn’t reach double figures. Lampard and Gerrard were both better

You could say the same about Kane but Harry Kane is better than Rooney and it won’t be judged by what team trophies he won. 

Im not sure Harry Kane is better than Rooney, although very very close.

Reckon Spurs will win summet this season. Deffo worth an EW bet for the league.

Hope they do, for him at least.

Different roles so not as easy comparison.

International goal scoring record therefore isn't a fair comparator.

Can't really say one is significantly better than the other. 

Hard to call Rooney over a period of time was very good/excellent. For three or four years Gazza was a genius
