I get what you mean, and I was thinking about the same thing earlier and whether there was a distinction. But then I came to the conclusion that in an instance like the Bristol one a few years back, you could at least make the argument that there was a political motive behind it, and that those people (rightly or wrongly) felt that they doing something for the good of humanity or just got caught up in the moment.

These tree cutters are just cunts. And the sentences do have to reflect that. Otherwise it's a bit like someone knocking over part of Stonehenge and people saying that they shouldn't get a custodial sentence because people knock over buildings all the time.

Bit of a clumsy analogy I know.

Some things are sacred is I guess what I'm trying to say.

And those in Bristol got not guilty 🤷🏻go figure

A war memorial?

That was wrong

If they did?

Maybe they went with the wrong charge

Criminal damage. Pretty clear cut for me.

My bad on the wording on that (though it’s probably going to happen) what are you basing your assumption on that they will lose support because of their denial, because it’s certainly not happening to date.

Just an opinion mate. I think climate change concerns could rise again by the next election. Increasing droughts , water shortages & many other issues. If Reform are still flat out denying the problem exists then that might impact their ability to win.

I think they'll pivot - if they haven't already - to a line of "it's real but it's not man-made"

All this talk about Reform is just a distraction from Labour’s failings. Yes the polls show them in the lead but as has been said many times, it’s a comment on the current and past governments that makes them so popular. Add the anti-woke sentiment (see girl in 🇬🇧dress) and it explains their popularity. Ignoring it and attacking them, just makes them more popular.

Which is why it must be encouraged.

We need the haters to at least keep it up or preferably amplify their screeching.

I get that, but jail, especially a 4 year term is way too excessive in my eyes. I’d have them on some kind of community project for 10 years (a full 10 years) planting trees in all weathers .

Would be much more of a common sense approach but the global public outcry demanded a scalp.

For the record, I hate what they did. Cunts of the highest order.

Out planting trees in that region in the depths of winter. Year in, year out. A great idea.

That is not a similar case

Why not ?  In both instances a really old tree has been chopped down without permission. Surely that makes it similar ? Not identical but similar ?

Why do you ask so many questions?

He's as fucking dim as a 1 watt bulb that lad sometimes.

If he wants evidence of popularity rising because of sneers and put downs he only has to look across the pond. Look what The Don had to go through with his jumped up court cases and all of the slurs (continuing now with the Epstein thing). The fucking lowlifes do not have a point below which they will not stoop. Didn't stop the big man winning did it? I believe that in fact it definitely assisted him.

Will be the same with Reform. The more ridicule the haters try to muster the higher Reform ratings will go. The silent majority of the electorate will speak and devastate the screechers in one fell swoop.

With this in mind, we must continue to encourage them in their scurrilous endeavours.

Water shortages aren't solely the caused by climate change.

In fact, as well as hot dry periods, we are having intense rainfall periods, so adequate rain seems to be available.

Demand is simply outstripping supply.

Not rocket science is it.

Tackle the issues of the day, and Reform go away.

In this country at least, we haven't built a new major reservoir since 1992 and in the time since the population has increased by over 10M

Precisely.

Although the construction of a new one is ongoing at the moment.

Others in the pipeline.

Still not enough though.

Its not easy to identify suitable sites, go through planning and mitigate the damage done, and takes ages.

Slow down the rate of population expansion.

It isn’t solely no

But climate change is & will have a massive impact.

Yes there are other issues that need addressed. Water companies, poor infrastructure & investment & increasing population. However, if we abandon net zero targets & carry on burning fossil fuels, then we’ll be well over 3 degrees of warming & will be hitting all the tipping points.

Doesn’t matter how much population demand you’ve reduced by then. Carry on as normal & crop supply & water will be impacted massively.

Brief heavy rain during drought periods doesn’t solve the issue either. If the ground is too dry, it won’t always be absorbed & recharge groundwater supply. Can just run off or be evaporated. Then farmers need to use more water, demand increases, supply runs low.

These droughts during March, April & even other winter months aren’t normal. Could get pretty concerning in some places if August & September isn’t any better

Hope they don’t put him back up 😂

Anyway

This tree felling incident. What a pair of morons. I went and saw the gap last year on a walk, it’s depressing. They were mindless idiots.

Ancient woodland was felled for HS2 as well. Some I think I heard in areas where they scrapped the project.

I think I am probably in agreement with RW that prison isn’t the right solution.

Wouldn’t community service be cheaper to run for those who aren’t a risk to the public. 5 years for this pair. 3/4 days a week litter picking, planting trees, clearing areas in their country. Surely that’s cheaper to run than housing & feeding them? Can even work & pay tax on their other days.

These tree cutter downers won't serve 9 months.

I think, as you say, a shitload of community service would have been sufficient. It's just going to cost us to have them banged up. Get them planting trees, picking litter, cleaning canals etc - they miss more than 2 sessions, then inside for a month, and then back to community service.

If the prisons really are full, then putting folk like this inside won't be helping that situation in the slightest
