There have been similar complaints here, in one or two places, when large numbers of tourists arrive. 

These Spanish hot spots developed quickly though, on the back of visitors' desire for some sun.

Some focused on bars, alcohol etc aiming for the younger clientele. 

Now biting the hand that feeds them: perhaps they should have thought about it all before the rapid development and how appropriate it is.

 

Been driving around here and the development of apartments is phenomenal.  Construction cranes and building materials everywhere. All the sales blurb show Belgian, Dutch, German, all Scandinavian and British flags. They clearly aren't being built for the revolting locals (sorry, the locals who have been in revolt!).

Most of the Spanish we know across the familial spread (Nerja to Tarifa) are great people. Without the hospitality industry it would be hard to see where any employment would come from.

That's the risk when you quickly pull the rug from under an industry. Not enough time to redevelop other things.
